In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Pennsylvania team driver, Matt Adams!
1. How did you discover RC car racing? Was it early in life, later on as an adult, etc?
I discovered RC racing at 12 years old after seeing a copy of RC Car Action Magazine at a local store. I received a newly released RC10T3 for Christmas that year and have been racing since then.
2. Dirt Oval has really grown in popularity over the past few years. In your opinion what is the main cause of this increase of left turn drivers?
I would say it’s Dirt Oval going back a less manicured surface than we raced on a decade ago. Rubber buggy tires are much less imposing to someone new getting into the hobby than the foam tires we used to use when many of the tracks were glass smooth.
3. As an experienced racer you have probably glued up hundreds of tires for your race program. What tips can you give to make this process easier for a new racer?
Make sure you have your glue, tire bands, rags, and anything else you need laid out and ready. Take your time, make sure to clean the bead area of the tires so they adhere to the wheel. Remember a little bit of tire glue goes a long way.
4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?
At least one, preferably two or three JConcepts Metal Car Stands. It makes wrenching on the car during race day so much easier if it’s not setting on the table in the dust. Plus, the blue matches the scheme on my cars and looks awesome.
5. Obviously you are into RC racing but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?
I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling when I can. I also enjoy watching full size racing whether its NASCAR, sprint cars, midgets, motocross, pretty much anything with wheels.
