Friday5 With Team Driver Evan Vail

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to South Carolina team driver, Evan Vail!

1. Ok let’s start with how you got first involved in RC. Did you pick it up from someone, stumbled across a local track, etc.?

My parents introduced me to RC racing at a pretty young age. I eventually saved up for an 1/8 buggy back in 2010, and raced for a year at my local track called the Hobby Stop in Rock Hill, SC. I was instantly hooked and began traveling to different tracks and larger events in years to come!

2. What classes do you enjoy to compete in today? Is there another class you would like to see comeback or increase in popularity so you could compete in it as well?

My favorite classes to compete in are anything 1/8 off-road. I enjoy the challenge of the 1/8 off-road tracks. The bigger the jumps and more difficult the layouts the better! The recent popularity of nitro Short Course Truck seems to be pretty cool. If it takes off I could see myself racing one!

3. Nitro or Electric racing. If you had to eliminate one all together which one would it be and why?

Nitro racing is where it’s at for me! I love the long nitro mains and the extra steps you have to take to setup a nitro car. Electric is nice for the ease of maintenance, but you can’t beat the smell and feel of a nitro car going around the track!

4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?

My favorite JConcepts product would have to be the Reflex tire. No matter what track you’re at it always seems to be a good baseline tire that gives you a great feel and competitive edge!

5. Obviously you are into RC racing but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?

I started out painting RC bodies for fun and it eventually led to my business PreVail Paints! Now I paint anything from RC bodies to racing helmets, golf carts, and custom cars! I also enjoy anything outdoors whether it be lake days, mountain biking or snowboarding!
