Friday5 With Team Driver Orlando Martinez

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Kansas team driver, Orlando Martinez!

1. We have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you get your start in RC cars?

The first one I bought was a car from Toys“R”Us that I still have. After that I bought a Traxxas Nitro Rustler in 2004! After heading to the local hobby store for parts weekly, they told us about race tracks in the city. Ever since then I have been hooked on them.

2. Which type of racing format do you prefer and why. A trophy race that runs over a weekend or a single day event with multiple rounds in a points series?

To be honest I enjoy both formats. I love going weekly because I love the hobby. But, improving throughout a race weekend along with the competition is my favorite.

3. When life interferes and you can’t get out to the track, what other activities do you dabble with to meet your RC fix?

When I cant race I like to spend time with friends and family. We love to go watch the Kansas City Royals play a few times a week. Lastly, making sure I go to church every Sunday.

4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?

My most important tools are my Aluminum Ride Height Gauge, Aluminum Camber Gauge and Analog Quick Reference Calipers to make sure my car is always perfect.

5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?

I might come off a little quiet at first, but I’m more than happy to help anyone at the track with anything. I like to help beginners so they have a good experience and hopefully come back.
