Friday5 With Team Driver Rusty Mihelich

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Virginia team driver, Rusty Mihelich!

1. Ok first question is one we have to ask everyone in our interviews. How and when did your involvement with RC cars begin?

I got into RC racing in the early 90’s. I went to the local track in my hometown and I was hooked. My first real RC car was a RC10 and I believe it was in 1991. I have been RC racing off and on ever since.

2. When it comes to racing for hardware, which format do you prefer? A three day event that takes up the entire weekend, or a smaller series race that might only be Friday and Saturday? Or even a weekly points night?

I really enjoy the larger covered events. I like the competition it brings, and we are guaranteed to race no matter the weather conditions. I like the smaller one day races too, but I always look forward to the big ones.

3. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date and why?

I guess the first technological advancement would be the 2.4GHz radios. It’s so much easier not having to mess with crystals and to not have to worry about someone being on your frequency. Second one would be servos. Today’s servos are so strong and reliable compared to the ones of the past. I remember servo failure was a 50-50 gamble every time you hit the track.

4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.

An overlooked product from JConcepts to me would be probably the Detox tire. Not a real popular tire, but it sure works in a lot of conditions and it’s usually always in stock which is a win.

5. Name one thing people might be surprised to learn about you.

I spent over 20 years in the Army and did a combat tour in Iraq.
