In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Arkansas team driver, Calvin Bruce!
1. We have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you both get your start in RC racing?
My dad bought a Losi XXX-NT as a Christmas gift around 2002, soon after we found a local track. We raced there for a season and again periodically before jumping back into the hobby again with a new local track opening in 2018.
2. When it comes to racing for awards, which format do you prefer? A three day event that takes up the entire weekend, or a smaller series race that might only be Friday and Saturday? Or even a weekly points night?
Larger events have became my favorite. Those tend to give plenty of time work on equipment and still able to socialize and meet other racers. Two races specifically that have my favorite format are Nitro Mania and Alabama Manufacturer Shootout.
3. What classes do you prefer to compete in today, and why?
As a pit dad that doesn’t get to race glorious nitro, e truggy is an absolute blast on all surfaces, filthy power that you can drive to the limits is always fun.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
JConcepts has such a wide range of products it’s hard to select just one. For tires it would be the Reflex. For pit bling it would be the Aluminum | Carbon Setting Board. A must have on the workbench is the 17mm Finnisher Magnetic T-Handle Wrench. This wrench’s design was well planned, it has great thumb placement for either exterior torque and another placement for interior speed.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
Weightlifting, hiking, and biking are all hobbies that I enjoy.
