In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Pennsylvania team driver, JJ Eaton!
1. How did you first hear about RC car racing? Once you got started what class did you participate in to begin with and why?
I first heard about RC racing from my dad because he always been into RC, specifically RC monster trucks. Naturally, he wanted me to do it as well. I started with the Sport-Mod class because it was a slower class with a motor limit.
2. RC Monster Truck racing has really grown in popularity over the past few years. In your opinion why has this class grown so much?
I think monster truck racing has grown due to everyone posting more often and their friends seeing it and then they get hooked.
3. In your opinion, what needs to be done to make RC more “mainstream” and get more people involved?
I feel to get more people involved, some people in the RC community can use RC for local events. We host host a couple RC monster truck races at our local church each year and invite anyone to come check it out or even give them the opportunity to drive one of our trucks. We also just had a big fall festival and FMS donated trucks to use for a try-me course just to give kids the opportunity to look at and even drive the trucks.
4. Which JConcepts product, in your opinion, is a must-have on race day when going to the track and why?
I think the JConcepts Renegades are the biggest must-have on the track. They offer them in their Blue and Gold compounds. The Blue is primarily meant for dirt due to the softness of the tire. More of the tread digs into the dirt. Gold on the other hand has a stiffer feel to hook onto the carpet and give you the traction needed.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
Other than RC racing, I like to hang out with family and friends, as well as watching sports.
