The first weekend of racing in August was a busy one for the JC team as we saw many wins and top three finishes already at events! From 1/5 to 1/10 scale racing, the wins keep stacking up as you can read in this edition of the Race Team Update!
Let’s start off this week’s report in Omaha, Nebraska for Round 3 of the Team Associated/Reedy Summer Series at the HobbyPlex. On Saturday the competition was high as they saw 191 entries for the day. So let’s see how they team was performing.
In the competitive Mod 2wd Buggy class, Team Associated/ JC driver Alex Vanderbeek took the win in the A main! He was running Gold compound Dirt Webs in the front with Ellipses in the rear along with a F2 body and Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing.
Alex would make the podium again in the Mod 4wd Buggy class but this time in third place using the same body and wing but this time Gold compound Ellipses on all four corners. Joining him on the podium in first place was team mate Tom Rinderknecht! Tom reports that he ran with a F2 body and Gold compound Ellipses all the way around on his TLR ride.
In the competitive 17.5 2wd Buggy class our own Ken Peterson took the TQ and win! He said he competed with Ellipse tires and joining him on the podium in second place was JC driver Kyle Gannon! Kyle said he ran Silver compound Dirt Webs in the front with Ellipses in the rear.
In the 13.5 4wd class, JConcepts driver, and race director, Alex Sturgeon took the win while running on Gold compound Ellipses! Joining him on the podium was young JC driver Owen Vanderbeek who competed with the same tire setup plus a F2 body and Aero “long chord” rear wing.
Next in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class JC driver Drew Rubenking took the win! He said he used Gold Ellipses in both the front and rear along with a F2 Finnisher body for his T6.1.
Finally in the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class it was a clean sweep for the JConcepts team led by Sturgeon who once again ran Gold compound Ellipses! Gannon joined him in second and Mack Vanderbeek secured third as both drivers used Gold compound Dirt Webs in the front with Ellipses in the rear. Great job team!
Next, let’s make a diagonal down into Missouri to check out the race action at Fastlane Raceway in Kansas City. Saturday was their 6th Annual King of Dirt Oval Championship and our driver Jeremy Cathlina competed in two classes. In the Open Sprint class he would finish fifth overall for the day and in the Latemodel class he would secure 4th. His solid day of two top 5 finishes were aided by the JConcepts Ellipse and Dirt Webs tires in both the Silver and Gold compounds.
Now let’s head north into Iowa to check out the action at the Midwest 1/5 Shootout hosted by TBRL in Fort Dodge. Team driver Matt Olson made the 28 hour drive from California with his dad and took the double win in the Pro Truck and Buggy classes! The tire of choice was the JConcepts Yellow compound Reflex.
Heading up farther north to Minnesota let’s first stop at Proctor to check out the racing action at the Lake Superior R/C Car Club. They hosted the Minnesota State Championships and our own Thor Ott took the double win in the Mod 4wd and 2wd Buggy classes! In Mod 4wd he used Blue compound Sprinters in the front and back along with a P2 body. In the Mod 2wd class he used the same compound but this time Sprinters in the front and 3D’s in the rear.
Let’s stay in Minnesota and head southwest to the city of Foley for Round 3 of the FTR Raceway points series. It was a sweep for the JC crew in the Nitro 1/8 Buggy class led by Kyle Holmberg who took the TQ and win! He said he ran Green compound Reflexes for the main and joining him on the podium in second and third were JC mates Tony Sletten and Seth VanDalen!
Now let head east into Wisconsin to check in with team driver Ryan Derenne who competed at Dirt Heaven Hobby and Raceway in New Franken for the 6th Round of their Summer Series. He would TQ and win in the Mod 4wd class while using Silver compound Ellipses along with a F2 body and Aero wing package! And in the 40+ Super Stock 2wd Buggy class he would secure second for the day while running slicked Ellipses in the Silver compound along with a F2 body and the Aero wing package once again.
Continuing east into Michigan, JC driver Kyle Munson attended Race #3 of the M40 RC Raceway points series in Gobles. He would move up from fifth place in the main to secure second overall for the day! His TLR ride was running strong thanks to JConcepts Choppers in the rear and Carvers in the front along with a HF2 shell.
Now let’s leap over to New Jersey to check on the racing action in Jackson for the Pan Nationals at Jackson RC Raceway. JConcepts driver Frederick Perkins competed in both the 21.5 Touring Car and 25.5 F1 classes. In the 21.5 Touring Car he wasn’t quite able to bump out of the B Main but in the 25.5 F1 class he would finish in second place! His Touring car was rocking the JConcepts A1 Racer body while his F1 car used the J21 Javelin body.
Now let’s head down the East Coast into South Carolina to check out Round 10 Of the Snap Hard Racing League “Beast Of The Southeast Series” hosted by Beach RC & Hobbies in Myrtle Beach. We had several drivers competing so let’s start with team driver Jason Westfall. Jason competed in three classes that day and in the Mod 2wd class he took the win while running on Gold compound Ellipses in the rear and Dirt Webs in the front! In the Mod Stadium Truck class he would secure second place on the podium while using Silver compound Ellipses all the way around. And in the 4wd Buggy class he finished a respectable 7th place. Jason also takes home the Iron Man award of the week to add to his trophy collection. 🙂
Team driver Mike Kling and his son Nate were also in attendance and report that they had a great time. Nate finished 3rd in the Novice class using JConcepts Gold compound Bar Codes in the rear and Rips in the front. Mike would finish a solid 6th place in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class while using Silver Compound Ellipses and a P2 body.
Taking first place in that class was team mate Dave McEwen! His winning ride was using a JConcepts F2 body, Carpet | Astro High-Clearance Rear Wing, Silver compound Ellipses and many other JC goodies.
On Sunday the Snap Hard Racing League headed down to Georgia which is our next stop. Team driver Chris VanRaemdonck went to the Augusta RC Supercross track in Augusta to race at the event and started in second for the A Main in the Nitro 1/8 Buggy class. But unfortunately he had some bad luck in the main and would have to settle for fourth overall but still great results for his first nitro event in almost four years!
Now let’s shoot over to Texas for the 5th installment of the Championship Series at Thornhill Racing Circuit in Hutto. JConcepts driver Dillon Caldwell reports that he was able to lock up third place using Aqua compound Detox tires!
Now let’s aim north and head into Oklahoma to see the team’s results at the Round 2 of the RC Pro Oval North Series at Taylor Park in Yukon. JC driver Robert Chapman competed in the Midwest Modified and Outlaw Sprint classes. He would TQ and win in the Midwest class and take second in the Sprint class! He said both cars ran JConcepts Green compound Ellipses in the rear and Dirt Webs up front.
He took second in the Sprint class since team mate Trevor Nault took the win! He said his oval car was using the same tire setup as Robert too.
Now let’s head West into California for Round 1 of the JBRL Electric Series hosted by Coyote Hobbies Raceway in Victorville. Young JC driver Levi Raymond took first place in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class and made another podium with a third place finish in 17.5 2wd Buggy!
His brother Chase also took the win in the 21.5 2wd Buggy class and made another podium by finishing 2nd in the 17.5 Stadium Truck class! Joining him on the 21.5 podium in third was team mate David Burnell!
And dad did some racing too that weekend as Chris secured the win in the 40+ 2wd Buggy class! The Raymond team ran a combination of JConcepts Octagons and Silver compound Ellipses.
In the 13.5 4wd Buggy class JC driver Matthew Gonzales took the win and was joined on the podium with team mate Doug Lariviere in third! Matthew reports that he used a lightweight F2 body, Silver compound Ellipses mounted on Mono wheels and Aero S-Type 6.5″ rear wing. Doug also ran Silver compound Ellipses, a F2 body and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance Rear Wing.
The duo would make the podium once again in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class but this time Doug would stand on top with Matthew now occupying third! Doug used the same setup package as his 4wd car and this time Matthew used a lightweight S1 body, Silver compound Ellipses mounted on Mono wheels and a Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing.
And in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class JC driver Joseph Levin would lock up second place for the day! He said he used the JConcepts Ellipses in the Silver compound along with a F2 Finnisher body.
And finally we jump across the border into Canada to check out Round 4 of the Joker Series at Electrosport RC Raceway in Ottawa, ON. Team driver Jordan Miles doubled down with both the TQ and win in the Mod 4wd and 2wd Buggy classes! Both Yokomo rides were locked in with F2 bodies and Silver compound Ellipses.
