In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Texas team driver, Kevin Lenderman!
1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?
I had seen them on Facebook and my dad had told me about racing at Wild Bill’s RC Raceway in Irving, TX about 30 years ago. I looked them up on Facebook and they were still racing and I decided I wanted to go check it out. A long time friend and I went to watch on a Friday night and I was hooked. I first raced in the Novice class with a Slash.
2. Dirt Oval has really grown in popularity over the past few years. In your opinion what is the main cause of this increase of left turn drivers?
I think that the close racing people see on the track on a weekly basis catches their attention. In Dirt Oval you are always around other cars no matter if you are the leader working traffic or towards the back trying to make a charge to the front. Also the cars look like their full scale counter parts so it is easier to identify each class.
3. In your opinion, what classes have you noticed that seem to be in a decline? And how would you try to resolve this so there is more participation?
Short Course Modified is my favorite class. It’s so sad to see it decline so quickly. Just this year my home track had to move on from the class because the car count was so low. I have racked my brain for weeks and months trying to come up with a solution that would see the class grow. So far I believe if it were to go back to a two pole motor max limit of a 6.5 turn motor and stock chassis with adjustable rear arms it would take off and become one of the bigger classes around the country.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see and why? Is it a new body, new tire, new accessory, etc.?
Pit accessories are my favorite! Bags, boxes, setup tools, etc. I try to keep my race bag organized and the JConcepts team keeps those goodies coming!
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
I love watching and attending full size racing events. Dirt track, off-road, motocross, drag racing; I pretty much like them all. I pretty much grew up at all the local dirt and drag racing tracks around the Dallas/Fort Worth area because my dad raced. I also enjoy getting to hunt and fish when I get the opportunity. And like most people I really enjoy getting together with my family and friends to enjoy cookouts, holidays, or special occasions.

I have only known Kevin Lenderman for a couple of years and he and his Dad Gene are 2 of the nicest most helpful guys at the track. They always help me with my setup and have great advice.
