Race Team Update – August 2022 Week #2

The second week of racing for August is in the books and the JConcepts race team stays red hot out on the track which you can read all about in this sizzling edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report out at Hobby Etc Raceway in Manchester, NH. Last weekend they put on their 2022 New Hampshire State Champ event which saw 125 entries! Team driver Matt Perault was in attendance and he competed in both the Mod 4wd and 1/8 Electric Buggy classes. He would set the TQ in the Mod wheeler class and finish 2nd on the podium in both! His wheeler used Green compound Double Dees V2 tires while his e buggy used Reflexes in the same compound. He also used a F2 lid, Mono wheels, black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Sets and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing.

Sending it southwest to Gay, WV we meet up with team driver Bella Rogers who recently competed at ACCEL RC for Round 1 of the Mountaineer Showdown.

She competed in the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class and finished 2nd on the podium while using our Black compound Teazers and a S15 shell!

Heading back to the coast we veer off to Thunder Alley R/C Speedway in Lucama, NC for this update from team driver Josh Parrish. He recently competed in their Short Course Showdown event and he took the TQ and win in the Mod 2wd SCT class while using a HF2 shell and Silver compound Ellipses glued to 9-Shot rims!

Moving over to Georgia let’s head to the city of Savannah where Phil Hurd Raceway is located. They recently held the first round of their points series and team driver Doug Dragotta was there and ready to compete. He would set the TQ and finish 2nd in the Mod 2wd Buggy class while using Green compound ReHabs in the rear and Blue compound Dirt Webs up front!

Sending it further south into Florida we meet up with team driver Zach Griggs who recently competed at Newred Hobbies in Ocala for their new points series. He competed in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes and he would finish 3rd in 4wd and took the win in 2wd! His wheeler used a S2 body, a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing, Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires and RM2 2.2″ Hard 2wd | 4wd Front Inserts. His 2wd buggy used the same tire and wing setup along with a F2 body and a Black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Set.

Moving west we now visit 318 RC Raceway in Shreveport, LA. They recently held the finals for the East RC Pro Series so let’s see how the team finished up starting with team driver Drew Spurgeon. He reports that he set the TQ in both the 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes! In the mains he had some bad luck with this nitro car as a mechanical failure would drop him back to 5th overall, but in the e buggy main he would go out and take the W! With the really hot track temps he started on A2 compound ReHabs and Detox tires before switching over to Blue compound Detox rubber for the mains.

Also competing at this race was his tire teammate Calvin Bruce. Calvin would take the win in A2 of the 1/8 Electric Truggy class which would lock up the series title for him in this class! His son Braden finished 4th in the 1/8 Electric Buggy main and secured 3rd place overall for the series! In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class Braden also ran into a mechanical issue during the main which would drop him back to a 6th place finish, but for the series he would capture the overall title in this class! For the finals his e buggy used Green compound Diamond Bars.

Next, let’s send it over to the “show-me state” for a few updates from the team competing at different events. Starting with team driver Matthew Pyle he reports that he raced at Round 5 of the DIRT Series at Chicken Dinner Raceway in the city of Neosho. He would finish 2nd overall in the Expert 1/8 Electric Buggy class and set the TQ and take the win in the Expert 1/8 Truggy class! He opted to use Blue compound Reflex tires on his truggy while his buggy used Blue compound Stalkers.

Our next update in the state is from Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs. Last weekend they hosted the 2022 King of Dirt Oval Championship which brought in over 130 entries!

Competing there for JConcepts was team driver Brian Stanton in the Open Sprint, Latemodel and Midwest Modified classes. In the Sprint class he wasn’t able to bump out of the lower mains, he finished 5th in Latemodel, and he also set the TQ in the Midwest Modified class! He didn’t have the best luck in the Midwest Modified finals as he wasn’t able to finish the race after getting caught up in a wreck but was still was running fast that weekend, and all of his cars used Gold compound Dirt Webs up front, Ellipses in the rear and they were all glued to Mono wheels.

Also competing at this event for the team was JC driver Tyler Keel in the Midwest Modified and Open Sprint classes. He would finish 5th for the day in the Open Sprint class and locked up 2nd place in Midwest Modified! He used Gold compound Dirt Webs up front with Ellipses in the rear, and joining him on the Midwest Modified podium were fellow JC drivers Brian Stanton (TQ/8th) and Jeremy Cathlina (5th)!

Now we head north to FTR (Full Throttle RC) Raceway in Foley, MN to get this next report from team driver Joe Scaramell. He raced there recently for their Summer Heat event in three different classes and finished 9th in 1/8 Electric Buggy, 4th in 1/8 Nitro Buggy and 2nd place in 35+ 1/8 Nitro Buggy! Early on in the event he used Kosmos tires, but after some rain had fallen he switched over to Green compound Reflex rubber.

Heading out west we land at DieHard RC in Snohomish, WA for our next tour stop. Over the weekend they held their 3rd annual Turf GP event which saw 177 entries! Team driver Jeff Keeton reported that he locked up the final podium spot in the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class and set the TQ and took the win in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class! He used Fuzz Bites up front, Nessi and Fuzz Bite tires in the rear along with F2 lids and Black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Sets.

Sending it south into sunny California we stop in at Freedom Park Raceway (Roadrunners R/C Club) in Camarillo for our next update. They recently hosted Round 4 of the JBRL “Jimmy Babcock Racing League” 1/8 Scale Series that saw 237 entries!

Team driver Jesse Granat competed at this event and raced in the 40+ 1/8 Electric Buggy class and would finish 6th overall while using a variety of tires like A2 and A3 compound Stalkers and A2 Detox tires!

Also competing at this recent round was his JC mate Mike Sorchy. He would finish 17th in Intermediate 1/8 Nitro Buggy and 15th in Open 1/8 Electric Buggy!

Now let’s get some updates from our international team starting with Australian driver Jarod Ment. He recently competed at the New South Wales 1/10 Electric Off-Road State Titles in Sydney, Australia in three different classes.

He would finish 3rd in Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy plus 2nd place in Mod Stadium Truck! He used a plethora of JC widgets on all of his vehicles:

  • F2 bodies
  • Mono wheels
  • Black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Sets
  • B6.3 Fin Titanium Front Axle
  • Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wings

Also competing at this event was fellow JConcepts driver Jordan Isergin in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes. He would finish 7th overall in the Mod 2wd Buggy class and lock up the 2nd podium spot in the Mod 4wd Buggy class! His cars used F2 bodies, Blue compound Dirt Webs up front (control tire in the rear) and Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wings.

JConcepts driver Lachlan Donnelly was also throwing down laps at this event and he took the TQ and win in the Mod Stadium Truck, Short Course Truck and Mod 2wd Buggy classes! He used F2 shells, Black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Sets, B6.3 Fin Titanium Front Axles, a HF2 body and Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wings.

Our final report this week comes to use from team driver Steve Seguin. He recently competed at the 2022 Bego Cup at Calotte Raceway in St Andrien, QC, Canada and took the TQ and win in the Mini Truggy class using Green compound Sprinter tires!
