Friday5 With Team Driver Ashon Bristol

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Washington team driver, Ashon Bristol!

1. How did you discover RC car racing? Was it early in life, later on as an adult, etc?

Racing started for me in late 2011. First started with racing Losi Mini 8IGHT buggies in a friend’s barn on Wednesday nights.

2. For 2024 what races, series, or other RC related event are you looking forward to attending and why?

For the 2024 season I’m focusing on bigger events. My local track being Diehard RC is always at the top of my list for local club races and annual big events. As for large events the ROAR Electric Off-Road 1/10 Carpet Nationals and the Florida Carpet Championships are both on my radar.

3. In your region you do quite a bit of racing on off-road carpet. So what advice do you have for off-road dirt drivers that are trying out carpet for the 1st time?

Don’t be afraid to ask around and learn what others are doing. Every carpet track is different in its own way. The more info you can gather about what people are running for tires and setups will save you a lot of time and energy when you get to the track.

4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?

Tires. Tires are the most critical part of the car. I have driven almost every tire that is on the market and nothing compares to the drivability of JConcepts. With little work and scrub in time JConcepts tires will always work out of the box. Competing tires often have a weird feel and are often difficult to drive.

5. Besides piloting a RC car what other hidden talent or skill set do you possess that might surprise someone?

I’m also an experienced drone racing pilot. Sadly, I retired as the local racing scene closed, but at my peak I was in the top 10% globally.
