Friday5 With Team Driver Sam Ford

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Colorado team driver, Sam Ford!

1. Ok let’s start with how you got first involved in RC. Did you pick it up from someone, stumbled across a local track, etc.?

My dad raced RC cars before I was born so I have been around RC my whole life, but I did not start racing myself competitively until I was 13 years old. We raced nitro touring cars in the summer time for a few years in a parking lot at HobbyTown. By the time I was 18 years old my dad stopped racing and I always wanted to race off-road having a passion for riding BMX dirt jumps so this really spoke to me. Now I enjoy racing with my two boys.

2. As a new driver for JConcepts in 2024, what do you feel you bring to the team and what are some of your racing goals?

I feel like I bring a positive attitude and willingness to help any and all drivers. My goals are to have as much fun as I can while doing it with my kids and pushing them to the next level of greatness.

3. Which type of racing format do you prefer and why. A trophy race that runs over a weekend or a single day event with multiple rounds in a points series?

I don’t have a preference as long as the competition is high and we all have fun doing what we love.

4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.

I think it is JConcepts bodies that are overlooked. The reason I feel this way is on how durable they really are, and that goes a long way when spending money on a body and then painting it.

5. Obviously you are into RC racing but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?

I would say doing anything with my family whether it is doing RC, or simply going to our local real dirt oval track (I-76 Speedway) and watching the races, or even just hanging at home playing video games with my boys.
