Friday5 With Team Driver Tyler Aubart

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Wisconsin team driver, Tyler Aubart!

1. We have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you get your start in RC cars?

I got my start in RC basically bashing Traxxas Slash Ultimate 4x4s with my dad in a family friend’s front yard. There was a group of guys all in there 50’s or older that put it in a little dirt track and we started doing three lap races just over and over again until our batteries died. From there my dad and I wanted to race in the winter since these guys went out to Arizona and did the same type of racing. My dad found The Toy Box on Facebook and we decided it was worth a shot to drive two hours to see what we thought. I was hooked on it pretty quick, but I wanted to get a buggy to race. My first buggy race was very early 2021 and I’ve just progressed from there.

2. For the rest of 2025 what races, series, or other RC related event are you looking forward to attending and why?

I will continue to attend Trackside Hobbies Saturday Night Fever points series along with all of their big events such as INS15, Buggy Champs and the Team Associated race. Even though it’s a five hour drive, it is the closest dirt track to me and the highest level of competition I can find on any given race day. I am also looking forward to the MNRC series this summer which is 1/8 off-road. I really enjoy these events as I get to see the people I’ve been racing with since The Toy Box days in 2021 and 2022 along with battling with the “local fast guys”. Hopefully I will also make it to a few of the bigger tracks in the Midwest such as Hoosier RC Hobbyplex and HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) along with maybe some carpet and AstroTurf racing.

3. From your experience what is the easiest AND hardest maintenance task on your RC cars?

In my opinion the easiest maintenance task in RC is refreshing or changing shock oil. As long as you have a system for where the old oil goes it takes very little time and can make a big difference in on track performance. The hardest maintenance task in my opinion though is refreshing or changing diff oil specifically in 1/8 cars since it creates a big mess no matter how careful I am and it always takes more time than I expect it to.

4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day?

Whenever I head to any outdoor 1/8 track I make sure I’ve got a few sets of Blue compound Reflex tires. This is my go to tire and I know I will have good grip in almost any track condition. For 1/10 tracks though I would have to say the lightweight F2 body for my 4wd or the 7″ rear wing.

5. Besides RC racing, what other activities do you enjoy?

For the most part these days I go to work in the morning and then come home, watch some TV, and work on anything RC related. From time to time though I will kill time either yo-yoing or solving Rubik’s Cubes. On average I can solve the standard 3×3 Rubik’s Cube in about 11 seconds.
