Friday5 With Team Driver Gabe Boudreau

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Texas team driver, Gabe Boudreau!

1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?

I started racing in 1987. I bought a Tyco Turbo Hopper 2 from Kmart and it broke. My dad got me an RC10 gold pan Jay Halsey edition racing buggy and that’s how I got my start!

2. This year you joined JConcepts as a new team driver. What are some of your goals for this year and what do you think you can bring or add to the existing team?

My expectations are high. I want to win and having the best tires on the market is a good step! My goal is to make the mains at the races I compete at and win as much as possible. I know they are lofty goals, but you have to aim high to hit high.

3. From your experience what is the easiest AND hardest maintenance task on your RC cars?

Gluing the tires is the most tedious. If you don’t want the tire to delaminate you have to do everything right. And your tires are the most important component on your car. It’s the only thing touching the track. They have to be right. After gluing tires the diffs then shocks. But I enjoy working on the car so this isn’t an issue. Charging batteries today has to be the easiest task for the car.

4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful. It could be a tool, tread pattern, wing, etc.

The Dirt Bite. It’s a great tire. It’s actually a better tire at my home track. This tire is often over looked.

5. Besides RC racing, what other activities do you enjoy?

I also have a music business, but I’m retired from making music. I like hanging out with my wife. Racing takes up most of my time. I’m at the track three to four times a week (weather permitting).
