Race Team Update – August 2020 Week #5

The final weekend of August was a busy one for the JConcepts race team around the world so let’s get right to it!

Let’s start off this week’s Race Team Update in Flowood, MS at Flowood R/C Indoor Park for the Bring The Heat 2020 trophy race! There were 181 entries and 16 classes to compete in so let’s see how the team performed.

Team driver Gary Guffey Jr. was in attendance and had some back luck in the 1/8 Open Nitro Buggy class after he couldn’t bump out of the B Main after he broke out, but he did have better luck in the 1/8 Open Electric Buggy class as he took the TQ and win! Aqua compound Ellipse and R2 compound Detox tires worked all weekend for him.

JC driver Dillon Caldwell made the drive over to Mississippi to compete at this event in the 1/8 Expert Nitro Buggy class and he secured 2nd place on the podium while running R2 compound ReHabs with a JConcepts Silencer body and wing package!

JConcepts driver William Ables also competed at this event in both the 1/8 Expert Electric Truggy and Buggy classes. He TQed the Truggy class and finished 2nd overall and also ended up in 5th in the Buggy class!

Fellow JC driver Cameron Breaux competed in three classes: 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy, 1/8 Expert Nitro Truggy and 1/8 Expert Nitro Buggy. He would set the TQ in the E Buggy class and finish 7th after the AAA mains were ran. In the Truggy class he would take the win and in Expert Nitro Buggy he finished a solid 5th! All weekend long he ran Blue compound Detox, Diamond Bars and Reflex tires along with R2 compound ReHab and Gold compound Ellipse tires.

Team driver Drew Spurgeon also competed at this event and took the TQ and win in 1/8 40+ Nitro Buggy and 4th in 1/8 Expert Nitro Truggy! He used Blue and Gold compound Ellipses in qualifying and switched to R2 compound Rehabs and Blue compound Reflex tires for the mains.

And young JC driver Phi-Long Nguyen took the double win in the 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy and 1/10 Mod 4wd Buggy classes while using Blue and Gold compound Ellipses along with R2 ReHabs! Great job team!

Now let’s roll over to Georgia and connect with team driver Cade Burnette. He attended Round 4 of the SOS Series hosted at Augusta RC Supercross in Augusta. There were 136 entries and he competed in 1/8 Pro Nitro Buggy, Pro Electric Buggy and Nitro Truggy. He started 4th in Pro Nitro Buggy but after a rough main settled for 9th overall. In the Nitro Truggy class he would set the TQ for the 25 minute main! He would take the win while running on Blue compound Reflex tires. And in Pro Electric Buggy he qualified in 4th for the 10 minute main and would go on to drive to 1st place on JConcepts Blue compound Reflexes!

Now let’s head up to Pennsylvania to check in with Team driver Matt Stoltz. He recently raced at The Raceway at Get A Hobby in Uniontown and took the TQ and win in the 2wd Buggy class! He used Pink compound Swaggers and Pin Downs along with a light-weight S2 body.

Now let’s head back east to Michigan to see how JC driver Logan Wendling performed at the Twisted Nitro Shootout at Sandpit RC in Jonesville. In the 1/8 Electric Buggy class he set the TQ and finished 3rd while running on Blue compound Lil Chasers! And in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class he qualified 2nd and took the win in the 30 minute main! The winning tire were JConcepts Blue compound Blockers.

Heading further east let’s stop in Wisconsin to check on the team at the recent 19th Annual Corn Roast at Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway in New Franken. There were 150 entries and JConcepts driver Ryan Derenne reports that on the indoor track he took the TQ and win in the 40+ Super Stock 2wd Buggy class! He used Silver compound Ellipese and a P2 body on his TLR 22 5.0 D.C Elite. He also raced in the Mod 4wd Buggy class and would qualify 5th for the Main. Once the tone sounded he would charge his was to 3rd place overall! He used Silver compound Ellipse and a F2 body on his TLR 22X-4. On the outdoor track he also raced in the Mod Stadium Truck class. After fighting some gremlins in qualifying he would start in 7th place for the main event. But once the race started he got his 22T 4.0 sorted out and would grab the final spot on the podium! For this class he used Double Dees in the Green compound.

Fellow JC mate Cole Tollard also competed in this race but in the 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes. He took the win in both classes while running on JConcepts Green compound Stalkers!

Also racing at this event was team driver Matt Wilbert who took the TQ and win in the Mod 4wd Buggy class! He used Silver compound Ellipses, Mono wheels and a F2 body.

Now let’s go a little further east into Minnesota to check on the team at Round 4 of the Summer Series at FTR Raceway in Foley. Driver Thor Ott competed in the Mod 4wd class and finished 2nd on the podium while running on Blue compound Sprinters!

JC driver Josh Ford reports that he took 3rd place in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class on R2 compound tires! Joining him on the podium in 2nd was Tony Sletten and in 1st Seth VanDalen to complete the podium sweep for JConcepts!

Moving south let’s head into Iowa to check in with driver Brandon Kearney who attended Round 4 of the Bad Fast Hobbies Summer Series in Sioux City. He was able to TQ and win in 13.5 4wd Buggy plus take the win in Mod 2wd Buggy! Both buggies were equipped with Swaggers and Twin Pin tires.

Moving further south let’s check in with the Slover team who recently competed at the Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs for Round 4 of their Summer Series. JC driver Stevie Slover took the TQ and win in the 17.5 Expert 2wd Buggy class! He was running Dirt Webs up front and Ellipses in the rear and all in the Gold compound. He also used a F2 body, Aero wing package, and Servo Mount Bracket.

His father Travis Slover was also competing and finished 2nd in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class! He used Gold compound Ellipse all on four corners along with a F2 body, Carpet | Astro High-Clearance Rear Wing, B74 Aluminum Rear Hub Carriers and a B74 Aluminum +3mm Steering Rack.

Now let’s head back up to Nebraska to check out the racing action at the HobbyPlex in Omaha. Saturday was Round 4 of their Summer Series as they saw 196 entries! That made for a long and competitive day of racing so let’s see how the team performed.

In the 13.5 Stadium Truck class team driver Drew Rubenking took the TQ and win while running on Gold compound Ellipses! Joining him on the podium in 3rd was team mate Nate Sutherland who used the same tire selection but in the Gold compound.

In the Mod 4wd Buggy class it was a podium sweep for the JConcepts team! Tom Rinderknecht took the TQ and win, Mason Fuller finished in 2nd and rounding out the podium in 3rd was Alex Vanderbeek. All drivers used Gold compound Ellipses in the rear and Dirt Webs in the front.

In the Mod 2wd Buggy class it was déjà vu for the JConcepts crew as these young guns swept the podium once again using the same tire setup!

In the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class it was another podium sweep for the JC team! This time driver Mack Vanderbeek took win followed by Tony Leatherman in 2nd and Alex Sturgeon in 3rd!

In the 17.5 2wd Buggy class team driver Ken Peterson set the TQ and finished 3rd while Nate joined him on the podium in 2nd! Both drivers used Silver compound Ellipses.

In the 13.5 4wd Buggy class it was Nate who came out on top using Ellipses in the Silver compound! Good job everyone!

Heading south let’s go to Oklahoma to check in on team driver Brian Stanton who recently competed at Battleground RC Speedway in Muskogee. He competed in the Outlaw Sprint and Open Late Model classes. He qualified in 2nd in the Sprint class but unfortunately broke out in the main. In the Late Model class he took the TQ and win while setting a new track record! During the day he ran the Aqua compound but switched over to the Blue compound once the sun set. Both cars used Ellipses in the rear and the Sprint car used Ellipses up front while he switched over to Dirt Webs for his Late Model.

Now let’s check in with our overseas team starting with Alberto Garcia. He recently took 6th place at 1/8 EP Spain Nationals at Circuito CARTT Fuencarral using 02 compound Blockers for qualifying and Y2 compound Diamond Bars Y2 for the mains!

JC driver Robert Sorjonen competed at the Coquitlam Classic held in Coquitlam, British Columbia that was hosted by the Coquitlam Area Model Racing Club. Due to COVID restrictions the event was capped at 50 entries but he was still able to compete in three classes. He took the TQ and win in both the Mod 4wd Buggy and 1/8 Electric Truggy classes! And in the 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy class would finish in 2nd after a tie breaker. All car performed well on Green compound JConcepts tires.

Finally, team drivers Lachlan Donnelly and Jarod Ment raced at the Sydney RC Ryde Cup in Australia. Both drivers used Black and Green compound Ellipses and Lachlan took the wins in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes and Jarod took 3rd in both classes too!
