It was a busy weekend for the JConcepts race team as they competed at several events around the nation. Let’s check out the highlights from two of the larger events starting with the Masters Of Dirt RC Championships.
This event was hosted by Beach RC & Hobbies in Myrtle Beach, SC and it had a great turnout with 348 entries! This was a 1/10 off-road electric event only and there was a total of 13 different classes to compete in. The race format called for three rounds qualifying with your best two runs counting towards the overall top qualifier position. The top 8 drivers were automatically locked into the single 10 minute A Main event from qualifying results and two more drivers were able to transfer to the main (positions 9 & 10) by finishing 1st and 2nd in the B Main.
Not only was there great racing happening, but the race event team kept things fun and entertaining by holding a Concours for best paint scheme along with a Hooligan Race (Dash 4 Cash) for a $1,000 prize that was donated by spectators and FDJ Motorsports! Let’s check on the team results in some of the most competitive classes.
Starting with the 13.5 Expert Stadium Truck class, JConcepts driver AJ Marasco would lock up the TQ position early in qualifying by taking the 1st and 2nd rounds. He would then go on to lead the entire main to capture the first title for the team that weekend!

Up next is the 40+ Mod 4wd Buggy class where we find team driver and Team Associated Team manager Brent Thielke. He would lock up TQ after rounds 1 and 2 of qualifying and would lead from tone to tone to take his 1st win of the weekend! Joining him on the podium were JConcepts team mates Rob Meyer Jr. in 3rd, Mark Unrath in 4th and Thomas Tran in 5th!

In the Mod 2wd Short Course Truck class, JC driver Chris VanRaemdonck would qualify 4th for the single A Main. But after the tone sounded he would jump into the lead on lap 3 and never look back as he took the win and put a victory lap on the entire field! Joining him on the podium was team mate Dave McEwen in 3rd!

In the 13.5 Expert 4wd Buggy class, Marasco dominated qualifying as he TQed all 3 rounds! He would go on to lead the entire main to take his 2nd title of the weekend! Joining him on the podium in 2nd place was team mate Nate Sutherland!

Now moving over to the Mod 4wd Buggy class, team driver Spencer Rivkin started 3rd on the grid but got off to a great start taking the lead on the 1st lap. He wouldn’t look back as he put his B74.1 across the finish line in 1st place! Joining him on the podium were team mates Dakotah Phend in 3rd and Tom Rinderknecht in 5th!

In the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class, team driver Alex Sturgeon would TQ this class after 2 rounds of qualifying, but in the main 3rd place qualifier Thielke would jump into the lead on the 1st lap and went on to secure his 2nd win of the race! Joining him on the podium were JC team mates Rob Meyer Jr. in 3rd and Paul Wynn in 4th!

Over in the competitive 17.5 Expert 2wd Buggy class, JC driver AJ Marasco would earn the top qualifier position once again after 2 rounds of qualifying, and would lead the field for the entire 10 minutes to triple up his 1st place awards for this event! Joining him on the podium were team mates Nate Sutherland in 2nd and Kenny Setser in 5th!

Now let’s shoot over to Canutillo, TX for the U.S. Open Fuel Championships. This event was hosted by SCRC (Sun City R/C Raceway) and it was an outdoors 1/8 event with both electric and nitro classes to compete in.
There was a total of 223 entries spread out over 7 classes so competition was high this past weekend on this large and technical layout.
The biggest class of the weekend was 1/8 Nitro Buggy with 72 entries! This premiere class was scheduled to run a 60 minute main event and leading the charge for the JConcepts team was Ryan Maifield. He started in 2nd place for the long main and got out to a great lead by leading the pack after the first lap. On lap six he would drop down to second overall and find himself in fourth place on the 16th lap. But Maifield kept his momentum moving forward and charged back to the lead on lap 21. He would briefly give up the lead again on lap 32 for a pit stop, otherwise he had a dominating performance as he lead the entire pack for the final 86 laps!
