Local to the JConcepts headquarters is Beachline Raceway in Cocoa, FL home to the Florida Carpet Championship race. The sun was shining, palm trees lined the road we drove in, and the beach only a rock throw away. The facility is gorgeous! It’s clean, there are 4 huge garage doors that allows a lot of fresh air to flow through, a stocked hobby store, and all around good vibes. When you walked in the trophies were sitting behind a glass case, waiting to be claimed after a long weekend of racing.
The tires of choice were swaggers in the front and twin pins in the rear. Swaggers have a low profile carcass that allows for predictability and consistency on high grip track conditions. Twin pins on the other hand, are designed to give support while turning in high-speed corners. As always with carpet racing chassis tape was required and the team utilized the JConcepts Chassis Protector Sheets.
The race program was broken down as follows. Thursday the track opened at 2pm where racers flowed into the facility eager to get on the track. Friday was primarily practice with a round of seeding where we could get an idea how everyone was going to stack up. We spent all day Saturday going through 3 rounds of qualifying, finishing it off with a super pole. Racers also look forward to Saturday night as it is the traditional Taco and Beer night at Beachline. Sunday was the big show where we went straight into mains and rounded off the weekend with a trophy presentation.
