Race Team Update – May 2021 Week #3

It was another solid weekend of racing for the JConcepts race team as we were competing at numerous race events around the globe! Read all about it in this week’s Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report down at Thunder Alley RC Speedway in Lucama, NC. They recently hosted Round 8 of the Snap Hard Race League and on Saturday racing was held indoors for all 1/10 classes and on Sunday the event moved outdoors for the larger 1/8 classes. So let’s see how the team performed starting with team driver Josh Parrish.

He reports that he competed in the Mod Stadium Truck class and qualified 2nd and took the win in the A Main! He used Green compound Ellipses glued to Mono wheels in the win.

JC driver Jake Stikeleather was also at this race and competed in three different classes. In Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy he took the double TQ and win! He also secured his 3rd TQ and win of the weekend in the 1/8 Pro Nitro Buggy class! His 1/10 bugs used Silver compound Ellipses plus a F2 body on his wheeler. And his nitro ride used a F2I wing, Blue compound Stalkers in the A Main and Green and Blue compound Reflex tires during qualifying. Joining him on the Mod 4wd Buggy podium were teammate (2nd) and Dave McEwen (3rd) to complete the JConcepts sweep!

Team driver Jason Westfall reported that he finished 2nd in Mod 4wd Buggy while running on Ellipse tires in the Silver compound along with a F2 body! He also finished 3rd in the Mod Stadium Truck class while using Green compound Ellipses and a Finnisher body! Joining him on the Mod 4wd Buggy podium were teammates Jake (1st) and Dave McEwen (3rd) to complete the JConcepts sweep of this class!

Speaking of Dave he not only competed in this class but four additional classes for a total 5! On Saturday for the 1/10 program he ran in the following classes and put in more solid results!

  • 17.5 2wd Buggy = TQ and 2nd place using Green compound Ellipses sanded to slicks and mounted on Mono wheels
  • Mod 4wd Buggy = 3rd place using Green compound Octagons mounted on Mono wheels
  • Mod Stadium truck = TQ and 2nd place using Green compound Ellipses sanded to slicks and mounted on Mono wheels
  • Mod 2wd Buggy = 3rd place using Green compound Ellipses sanded to slicks and mounted on Mono wheels

And on Sunday he decided to “slack off” and only compete in the 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy class. But he didn’t slack off on the race results as he took another the TQ and win! For this class he used Blue compound Reflex tires, a S15 body, a F2I wing and once again earns our coveted “Ironman” award for the week!

Staying in state we now go to the city of Andrews to check in on the team competing at North Carolina RC Raceway for Race #1 of the North vs. South (GA vs. NC) Series. This is a four race event between North Carolina RC Raceway and AJC Speedway in Acworth, GA and our first report comes from JC driver Chris VanRaemdonck.

He reported that he set the double TQ in 17.5 Pro Stock 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy! In the mains he would finish 4th over in 2wd and took the wire to wire win in 4wd! Both vehicles used Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 6.5″ Rear Wings, Fuzz Bite tires on all four corners, a S2 body on his 2wd and a F2 body on his 4wd.

Also competing at this race was teammate Justin Sherman who had great results in three different classes!

  • 1st in 17.5 Pro Stock 2wd Buggy
  • 2nd in 13.5 4wd buggy
  • 1st in 13.5 2wd SCT

Now we dip down into South Carolina to see how the team finished at Round 3 of the S.O.S (Southern off-Road Series). This was hosted by S&B RC Speedway in Piedmont and the race saw over 200 entries!

Team driver Shay Brand reports that he set the double TQ in both the 1/8 Pro Nitro and Electric Buggy classes! In the mains a mechanical failure ended his run in the E buggy class as he led the field, but in the 25 minute nitro main he would get the wire to wire win! In qualifying he used both the Blue compound Ellipse and R2 compound ReHabs tires. He used ReHabs in the nitro main and both cars also used S15 bodies and F2I wings.

Team driver David Olsen reported that he also competed in the 1/8 Pro Nitro and Electric Buggy classes and would finish 4th in E buggy and 2nd on the podium in nitro buggy! His electric ride used A2 compound Detox tires while his nitro car used R2 compound ReHab tires. And both vehicles used the S15 body too.

Team driver Logan Cowick set the TQ in the 1/8 Nitro Truggy class and he also qualified 10th for the long main in 1/8 Pro Nitro Buggy! In the Truggy main unfortunately he blew a glow plug while leading the field on O2 compound Reflex tires mounted to Bullet wheels plus a Finnisher body. But in the Nitro main he battled his way up to 4th while using Aqua compound Ellipse tires glued to Bullet wheels plus a S15 body!

Flying down to Florida let’s get an update from the team competing at Round 4 of the Florida RC Championships. This series took place at Sundancers R/C Raceway in Port Saint Lucie and team driver Carlos Segui reported that he finished 4th in 1/8 Electric Truggy and took the TQ and win in 40+ 1/8 Electric Buggy! He used Detox tires on his buggy, Reflex tires on his Truggy and both in the Aqua compound.

Teammate Patrick Rossiter Jr. took the TQ and win in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class and secured his 2nd W of the weekend in the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class! His truggy used Blue compound Reflex tires while his E buggy used R2 compound Stalkers in A1 and then he switched to the Blue compound for A2.

Team driver Carl Lebo reported he finished 2nd in 40+ 1/8 Nitro Buggy while running on Red compound Diamond Bars in the main! Joining him on the podium in 3rd place was teammate Luis Perez!

Staying in Florida we now travel to Brooksville where Ron Jon Raceway is located.

They just recently held their 2nd Annual Wild West Shootout and team driver AJ Zale reported he finished in 3rd place in the Open Sprint class! He said he ran Sprinters mounted to Mono wheels all weekend long.

Let’s make a diagonal to RC3 in Huntsville, AL for our next report from team driver Jamie Spurgin. He said he competed at their first series race and finished 2nd overall in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class while on Blue compound Reflex tires!

Now we shoot over to Irving, TX where Wild Bill’s Raceway is located. Their dirt oval track saw hot laps on both Friday and Saturday night so let’s get a few updates from the team. Starting with Scooter Etheredge he competed there on Friday night in three different classes and came away with 2 wins!

  • Midwest Mod = 3rd place while running on Green compound Dirt Webs up front with Ellipses in the rear
  • Street Stock = 1st place while running on Green compound Dirt Webs up front with Sprinters in the rear
  • Wingless Sprint = 1st place with various JConcepts widgets

Moving to Saturday the track held their SC Mod Shootout and team driver Kevin Lenderman reported he finished 5th in the Midwest Mod class while running on Green compound Dirt Webs up front, Ellipses in the rear and all on Mono wheels. In the SC Mod class he would take the TQ and win plus a $225 in cash! Who says RC racing doesn’t pay right? His winning SC Mod used Blue compound Dirt Webs glued to Hazard wheels.

Fellow JC racer Robert Chapman was also competing on Saturday and he reported that he finished 3rd in both the Midwest Mod and Outlaw Sprint classes! Both cars used 9 Shot wheels and Green compound Dirt Webs up front with Ellipses in the rear.

Twisting up to Topeka, KS we settle in at Ultraline Hobbies RC Raceway. They recently held their 2021 Kansas Carpet Off-Road Championships and our driver Riley Filbert reported that he finished 2nd in the Mod 2wd Buggy class!

He used the following JConcepts goodness:

  • Fuzz Bite tires
  • Mono wheels
  • P2K body
  • B6.3 Front Wing

Our next stop is in The Toy Box R/C Track in New Richmond, WI.

Team driver Kyle Holmberg was in attendance for Round 1 of their Summer Oval Races and he reports he took the TQ and win in the Sprint class while using Silver compound Ellipse tires!

Flying back east we stop at RC Excitement in Fitchburg, MA for this update from team driver Matt Perault. He was competing at their recent 2021 Moto X trophy race in both the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. In 2wd he would set the TQ and finish 2nd and in 4wd he would qualify and finish in 2nd place! His 2wd buggy ran on sanded down Green compound Ellipses while his wheeler used sanded down Silver compound Ellipses. Both cars also used Mono wheels, F2 bodies and Black Fin Turnbuckle Sets.

Our next report comes courtesy of team driver Eric Bresnahan. He recently went to RC Madness in Enfield, CT to compete in their Turf Madness trophy event and he competed in three classes with awesome results!

  • 17.5 2wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place
  • Mod 2wd SCT = TQ and 1st place
  • Mod Stadium Truck = 2nd place

All three cars used F2 bodies, Pin Down and Swaggers tires.

Now let’s get a quick update from our overseas team starting with Australian driver Jarod Ment. He recently competed at the 2021 RCRA NSW State Titles held at Hills Off-Road RC in Sydney. This race was attended by racers from around the country making it the equivalent of a Nationals due to the caliber of drivers in attendance. It was a three day event with practice on Friday, 2wd classes competing on Saturday and 4wd classes racing on Sunday.

After the event completed he finished 2nd in Mod 2wd and 6th in Mod 4wd! He used the following JC gear:

Our final report comes from team driver Jordan Isergin who also competed at this same race. After all the dust had settled he finished 7th in Mod 2wd Buggy and 3rd in Mod 4wd Buggy! He also used the Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing and B6.3 Front Wing too.
