Race Team Update – May 2021 Week #4

The JConcepts race team shows no signs of slowing down in another busy weekend of RC racing around the world! Please read this week’s Race Team Update to catch up on our latest victories!

We start this week’s report out in sunny Bakersfield, CA where Rain-Man’s Hobby and Raceway is located. They were host to Round 1 of the JBRL (Jimmy Babcock Racing League) 1/10 Electric Series which saw over 330 entries! We had several drivers competing at this event so let’s see how they did starting with team driver Joseph Levin.

He reported that he finished 3rd on the podium in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class while running on sanded down Silver compound Ellipses along with a Finnisher F2 body! He also locked up the same podium spot in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class while using the same tire setup and a F2 body and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing!

Teammate Doug Lariviere reports that he finished 2nd in 13.5 4wd Buggy and took the W in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class! He also used the same winning tire setup as Joseph along with a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing.

JC driver Chase Raymond finished the day with a TQ and win in the 17.5 Stadium Truck class! He also ran sanded down Silver compound Ellipses along with a Finnisher F2 body.

JConcepts driver Derek Stephansen doubled up in the Expert 13.5 4wd Buggy and 13.5 Stadium Truck classes with a TQ and win in 13.5 4wd and another win in truck! Both vehicles used sanded down Silver compound Ellipses and Finnisher bodies.

Team drivers Austin and Rick Riley submitted the following reports. Starting with Austin he competed in two classes and bumped up into the A for the Sportsman 17.5 2wd Buggy class and moved up to 7th place overall! And in the Sportsman 13.5 4wd Buggy class he would lock up 2nd place on the podium! Both buggies used sanded down Silver compound Ellipses and Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings.

Rick also competed in the Sportsman 17.5 2wd Buggy class and would finish 17th overall plus 4th overall in the 17.5 Stadium Truck class! His buggy used sanded down Silver compound Ellipses and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing while his truck rocked sanded down Gold compound Ellipses.

Now we shoot over to Porter, TX to check on the team competing at Round 6 of HARC which was hosted by Mike’s Hobby Shop. Team driver Brian “Smiley” Henn checks in to let us know that us that he finished 4th in 1/8 Electric Buggy and took the TQ and win in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class!

His teammate Dillon Caldwell reports that he qualified 3rd in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class and would go to take the win while running on Blue compound Detox tires!

Now we head north to Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. Last weekend was the opening round of their annual Summer Series which saw nearly 180 entries! Starting with team driver Riley Filbert he checks in to report that he won and bumped up from the B main into the A main for Mod 2wd Buggy and after the dust settled he finished a solid 4th place for the day! He used ghosted Gold compound Ellipse tires, an Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing, an Aero S-Type Rear Wing Center Divider and a B6.3 Front Wing.

JConcepts driver Brandon Kearney normally races on carpet but is making the switch to dirt for this series. He competed in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes and finished a solid 17th in Mod 2wd and 11th in Mod 4wd! His cars were stacked with a ton of JC widgets!

Team driver Mack Vanderbeek took the win in the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class while running on Gold compound Dirt Webs in the front, Gold compound Ellipses in the rear, a F2 body and an Aero wing package! Joining him on the podium in 2nd place was teammate, and Plex race director, Alex Sturgeon!

Speaking of Sturgeon, his son Emerson had a good day in Mini Truggy as he took the TQ and win on Gold compound Ellipses on all four corners!

In the Mod 4wd Buggy class it was JConcepts sweep as team drivers Alex Vanderbeek finished 1st, Tom Rinderknecht finished 2nd and Nate Sutherland locked up 3rd! Alex reported that he used Gold compound Dirt Webs in the front, Gold compound Ellipses in the rear, a F2 body and an Aero wing package. Nate said he used Silver compound Ellipse all the way around on his wheeler.

Young JConcepts driver Owen Vanderbeek finished 10th in Mod 2wd Buggy and 5th overall in Mod 4wd Buggy! He also used same equipment package as Alex.

Speaking of Mod 2wd Buggy it was another podium sweep for the JConcepts team! This time Tom finished 1st, Alex finished 2nd and JC driver Drew Rubenking filled out the final spot in 3rd place!

Now let’s make our way up to FTR Raceway in Foley, MN.

They were the host track to the first MNRC points series and team driver Kyle Holmberg reports that he took the double TQ and win in the 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes! In A1 of E buggy he used Green compound Reflex tires then switched to A2 compound Reflexes for the 2nd A Main. In the nitro class he used Blue compound Reflex tires for the 30 minute A Main. Joining him on the nitro podium in 3rd was teammate Josh Ford!

JC driver Joe Scaramell was also at this event and reports that he finished 2nd overall in the 40+ 1/8 Nitro Buggy class! He used Blue compound Reflex tires, a S15 body and a F2I wing.

Heading across the border into Wisconsin we stop in the city of New Franken where Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway is located.

They recently held the opening round of their summer series which featured both Off-Road indoor and outdoor racing plus some outdoor dirt oval!

Team driver Ryan Derenne reports that on the outdoor track he competed in the Mod Stadium Truck class and finished 2nd overall while running on Green compound Sprinters and a Finnisher body! On the indoor track he grabbed another 2nd place finish in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class while running on Silver compound Ellipses ground to slicks, a P2 body and Mono rims! And in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class he would snag yet another 2nd place finish with the same tire combo as his 2wd ride plus a S2 body!

His teammate Richie Peters also competed in three different classes and would take the TQ and W in 17.5 2wd Buggy, 4wd SCT and the 13.5 Sprint Car classes! He used a variety of JC goodies:

Our next stop is in Waterloo, IL at a recent Trigger King R/C Monster Truck Series event. Team driver Chris Parrish reports that he won the 2nd bracket in the Losi LMT Spec class with his modified “Samson” monster truck body known as “Colossus” and would finish 2nd overall! In the Retro bracket 1 his Bearfoot truck would make the semi finals before his was finally beaten! It used the following gear:

JConcepts driver Josh Rhodes was also at this event and competed in the Retro racing bracket and would finish 1st overall! JC driver Jeremy Mark also competed in the Retro class and made the semi finals in racing bracket #1 with his Taurus 1 truck! He used the following gear:

In the Sport Mod class both his Sudden Impact and Taurus 3 replica trucks were on rails in racing bracket #2. Sudden Impact made it to the Elite 8 before facing myself, and Taurus 3 made it to the finals! It used the following JC goodies:

Our next stop is in Tennessee to visit Bullet Town R/C in Milan for their 13th Annual Mayhem race which saw over 170 entries! We had many drivers in attendance so let’s see how they performed starting with team driver Drew Spurgeon. He said he took the double TQ and win in the 40+ and Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy classes! He used Blue compound Teasers and a S15 on both winning cars.

Team driver Drew Williams competed in three different classes and won in two of them while running all on Blue compound Triple Dees!

  • Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy = 3rd place
  • Expert 1/8 Electric Buggy = TQ & 1st place
  • 1/8 Electric Truggy = TQ & 1st place

JConcepts driver Izriah Osborne competed in both the Expert 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes and would finish 2nd in both! His weapons of choice were Blue compound Triple Dees and S15 bodies.

Our next report comes from team driver Chris VanRaemdonck who just competed at Race #2 of the North vs. South (GA vs. NC) Series. This is a four race event between North Carolina RC Raceway and AJC Speedway in Acworth, GA and this round was held at AJC.

He would set the TQ and take the win in the Pro Stock 2wd Buggy class while running on Swaggers tires in the front, Lockness tires in the rear and on all Mono wheels! He grabbed his second win of the event in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class while using a F2 body, a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing, Swaggers tires in the front, Nessi tires in the rear and on all Mono wheels!

Our next report comes from team driver Robert Meyer Jr. who recently competed at the King of the Carolinas event hosted by Mobile Hobbies in Shelby, NC. He reports that he won in the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class while running on Aqua compound Ellipse tires! And he TQed and finished 2nd overall in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class while running on R2 Triple Dees!

Continuing up the coast we stop in at City View Raceway in Concord, VA to get the following report from team driver Ken Rand Jr. He was in attendance competing at Round 3 of the Cash Series and took the double TQ and win in the 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes! He used a S15 body and Green compound Stalkers in the nitro class and Silver compound Ellipses in the E buggy class.

JC mate Kyle Chasen was also competing at this event and reported that he finished 7th overall in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class and 3rd place in 1/8 Nitro Truggy! He used Green compound Reflexes and Blue compound Triple Dees.

Now we get a few reports our “friends” in Pennsylvania starting with team driver Tim Rothenberger.

He recently competed at the 2nd M.A.D. Series Race held at Ultimate RC Pitstop in Sinking Spring and reports that he took the win in the 17.5 Boosted Sprint car class! He used Aqua compound Dirt Webs up front with R2 compound Ellipses in the rear.

Staying in state we now go to LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills for this report from JConcepts driver Matt Adams. He attended their warm up race for the upcoming ROAR Fuel Off Road 8th Scale Nationals which saw 339 entries! He competed in the Mod 2wd SCT and 1/8 Electric Truggy classes and couldn’t bump out of the lower mains for Truggy and in the SCT class he took the TQ and win! He used a Finnisher body, F2I wing and Reflexes on his Truggy and a Hi-Flow body, Hazard wheels and Green compound Sprinters on his SCT.

Also competing at this warm up race was team driver Tom Petrella. He raced in the 40+ 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes and finished 5th in nitro and 4th in E buggy! In the nitro main he opted for Aqua compound Detox tires and for E buggy he used Blockers in the same compound. Both buggies also use S15 shells and Bullet wheels.

Now let’s get a few updates from our overseas team starting with team driver Jesper Rasmussen. He attended Round 2 of Danish Championship took the TQ and win in the Mod 2wd Buggy class and 2nd overall in Mod 4wd Buggy! He used the following gear:

  • Black Fin Turnbuckle Sets
  • Aero Wings
  • P2K body on his 2wd
  • F2 body on his 4wd

JC driver Jordan Isergin attended a recent club race held at Keilor, Melbourne in Australia and took the TQ and win in Mod 4wd Buggy and finished 2nd in Mod 2wd Buggy!

He said Green and Black compound Ellipses worked great along with Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings.

JC mate Ray Munday was also at this race and he reported that he finished 3rd in Mod 2wd Buggy while running on Silver compound Ellipses along with a Black Fin Turnbuckle Set and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing! His son Lachlan Munday would also take the TQ and win in this class too!

Finally, team driver Ben Panic reports that he attended a series race two hours south of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia.

He competed in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class and would finish 5th for the day while running Black compound Triple Dees!
