Adam Drake Track Tire Guide & Report – Cabinet Mountain Raceway

Adam Drake has been busy this year racing around the country, running his engine business, teaching clinics, and representing JConcepts! Recently, he attended the Hot August Showdown in Libby, Montana at Cabinet Mountain Raceway! Big Mountains lined the horizon with tall Evergreen trees that reached toward the sky behind the driver’s stand. Talk about a track with a view! Track locals Blake McCoy and John Starkey helped Drake pit and took him on a tour of the most beautiful spots nearby! Check out some of the photos below!

The event kicked off on Thursday evening with a clinic hosted by Adam Drake from 6pm – 9pm.  The clinic allowed racers to get additional track time, ask questions, and get set-up help.  The local news stopped by Thursday evening to do a special on the event.  The clinic finished Friday morning followed by open practice.  Saturday was three rounds of qualifying and the main event was on Sunday. For the Nitro Classes, they ran 10-minute heads-up qualifiers and 25 minute mains.

The track conditions were damp, bumpy, loamy, but not very abrasive. During practice, Drake tested out Green Reflexes and Lil’ Chasers, which both worked great for him. However, once the track started to get bumpy Drake felt like the Reflex was the optimal choice.  He stuck with this duo through qualifying and adjusted as needed when the track got bumpy. By the time the mains rolled around Green Reflex was the go-to. In regards to the inserts, he glued his inserts to the wheel for Nitro Truck the entire weekend. He did mention that if the temperature was hotter Blue Reflexes would be another great option. For more details on tires check out his guide below!

Hats off to Cabinet Mountain Raceway, Kootenai RC Racers, and Scheer Bros Hobbies for all the hard work and for providing races with such an amazing event and facility. Drake was on fire as he was the overall TQ and rounded out the perfect weekend taking the win in both Nitro Classes! If you want to know more about Drake’s go-to equipment we listed it below. With that, you can catch Drake next at LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills, PA for the 2021 Mugen Challenge!
