In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Florida team driver, Kiarra Hold!
1. When you first got into RC racing, what pro driver did you look up to and why? Or maybe there was a local/regional driver that you followed?
When I first got into racing I was running the TLR 10th scale cars and JR Mitch was the local TLR fast guy. He would come over and help us with any set up help we needed and he was taking pictures of me with my car and posting it on his racing blog. I thought that was super cool and I would always love to watch his races.
2. It seems like in recent years more women are participating in RC racing than ever before. Why do you think that is and what could be done to increase it even more in your opinion?
I think there really isn’t anymore females racing than there was a couple of years ago. But, the increase in social media presence around females is higher then it ever was before. Now people are noticing girls that race that they probably didn’t know before, and hopefully this increase in social media will draw new females into this hobby.
3. Stock or 17.5 2wd Buggy is the biggest class in off-road electric racing currently. Why do you think this is and do you see these as a problem moving forward with the racing industry?
I noticed when more races started splitting up 17.5 to Independent and Pro Stock it seemed to kill the Mod 2wd Buggy class at the club racing level. It can be intimidating running Mod with the pros at the bigger events. I’m not sure it’s a problem, but I wish more people would race Mod. That’s my preferred class when I race 10th scale.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see and why? Is it a new body, new tire, new accessory, etc.?
One JC product I was excited to see get released was the new F2 truck body. I had heard a lot of good things about it and I couldn’t wait to get one for myself to run at my next race. One product I wish JC would come out with is a harder truggy tire compound for when the tracks get hot and grooved in the summer time.
5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?
Something I like to do outside of racing is photography. I’m currently taking a few courses to learn more about it and on the weekends that I’m not racing I like to go try to find things to photograph.
