Friday5 With Team Driver Dustin Grandbois

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to North Dakota team driver, Dustin Grandbois!

1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?

I started out bashing with a Stampede and Rustler. I did that for a couple years and was just about done with RC cars when the local hobby shop informed me of a new RC race car track being built, and I was immediately hooked. I started out racing Stock 2wd Buggy and Mod 4wd Buggy on black dirt.

2. In your region you do quite a bit of racing on off-road carpet. So what advice do you have for off-road dirt drivers that are trying out carpet for the 1st time?

Ask the local guys for a base setup and get practice, it’s quite a bit different on carpet. The margin for error is zero if you want to be at the top, so this means apex every corner and stick every landing. It’s pretty much on-road racing with jumps.

3. Nitro or Electric racing. If you had to eliminate one all together which one would it be and why?

If I had to choose it would be electric because it is so much easier to keep your car in top running order. But I have to say, I have the most fun while racing a nitro.

4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?

The most important thing to have for me is JConcepts TIRES! And, yes I have forgotten all my tires at home a couple times….not a great feeling, ha ha!

5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?

I am actually an avid weight lifter. I fall more into the body builder’s category vs. the power lifter.
