In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Alabama team driver, Randy Enger!
1. When you first got into RC racing, what pro driver did you look up to and why? Or maybe there was a local/regional driver that you followed?
I started racing competitively in 1989, and at that time Gil Losi Jr and Cliff Lett were guys I looked up to.
2. If you had to guess where the 1/10 off-road electric scene is ten years from now, would you expect to see?
If I had to guess I would think since we have laydown transmissions, the next highest thing on the cars now are the shocks and towers. Some kind of laydown shocks have to be in the works I would think.
3. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date AND why?
I remember racing back in the days of radio crystals and having to wait your turn for the clothespin with your channel to get on the drivers stand, LOL. 2.4ghz radios made a huge difference! Some of the younger guys will never have to know what waiting for someone on your frequency is like, or having your car suddenly turn right because someone turned their transmitter on in the pits.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
Good question…and a tough one! Tires would be the easy answer. But I would say my JConcepts Aluminum | Carbon Setting Board is my prized/favorite as of right now.
5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?
That I am a Chinook helicopter Flight Engineer Instructor. I help with software updates to the aircraft and travel the world teaching the U.S Army (and foreign country’s pilots) and maintenance personnel how to use it. I’m also an ASE auto mechanic and have worked as an Airframe and Powerplant technician as well. I like to tell people I’m a really fast mechanic more than a driver, LOL.
