In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to California team driver, Gary Slater!
1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?
My dad got me into racing straight away. He used to race in the 80’s through the 90’s and he had his old cars in the garage and I would always take the wheels off and pretend to work on them. So one day he surprised me with a new TLR 22 2.0
2. In your opinion, what classes have you noticed that seem to be in a decline? And how would you try to resolve this so there is more participation?
The modified classes have definitely taken a decline these past couple years. It’s hard to get people to move up to a higher class when there afraid to be in the way of the faster guys. It would be cool to see a modified and a pro class to let people get up to speed.
3. What is your biggest win to date and why?
My biggest win to date would be winning the 13.5 4wd class at the 2021 BK Classic. With the invert style racing format and all three mains counting it was definitely a challenge.
4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?
There’s many JConcepts products that are a must have on every given day at the track. Other than their phenomenal tires and bodies their ride height and camber gauge is on my pit 24/7 so I could make sure my cars are consistent every run!
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
When I’m not at the track you’ll catch me on my local lakes fishing. I’ve grown a passion with fishing recently and I enjoy spending time on the water.
