Race Team Update – December 2022 Week #2

The JConcepts race team shows no signs of slowing down as we getting closer to the finish line for 2022! Read about our winning ways in this new edition of the weekly Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report at St. Charles, MO where SmacTrac is located. This past weekend they held their Archway Classic trophy race so let’s see how the team finished up starting with team driver Brad Dean. He competed in two different classes and won in both Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy, plus a TQ award in the 4wd class! Both vehicles used Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires, RM2 2.2″ Hard 2wd & 4wd Inserts, Mono wheels and P2 and F2 bodies.

Also competing at this event was his tire teammate Connor Light. He would compete in the same two classes and lock up 2nd in both of them! He was running fast while using our Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires, Dirt-Tech inserts and Mono rims.

JConcepts driver Charles Day competed in the Mod 2wd Buggy class and would finish a solid 4th place while using Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires for the event!

Staying in Missouri let’s now head over to the city of Sullivan for the opening round of the Childress RC Winter Series. Competing there for the team was JC driver Chris Parrish in three different classes. In the Retro class he swept the event by winning all three brackets on all three tracks with his Bearfoot Racer replica, plus his other truck taking second in bracket 3 along with the win! In Sport Mod bracket 2 a different Bearfoot Racer took the win with his second truck also taking 2nd place! Finally, in the Sport Mod and Pro Mod brackets 1 he made it to the final race in the bracket style racing with his Bearfoot and Equalizer trucks too! His trucks crushed it while running the following JC gear:

  • Bearfoot Racer (Retro) = Regulator chassis conversion kit, Regulator Servo Mount Kit (BAS), 18mm Aluminum 25T Clamping Servo Horn, a 1988 Chevy Silverado Monster Truck body and Golden Year tires mounted to Tribute wheels
  • Bearfoot Racer (Sport) = Renegades tires glued to Tribute wheels, a 1988 Chevy Silverado Monster Truck body, Silent Speed 17T Adjustable Timing Competition Motor and a 20mm Aluminum 25T Clamping Servo Horn
  • Equalizer (LMT) = Renegades tires mounted to Tribute wheels, a 1988 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab body, a Racerback and a 20mm Aluminum 25T Clamping Servo Horn

Heading diagonally into Oklahoma we head over to Tulsa and meet up with driver Heath Lawson. He recently visited Shifty’s RC Raceway to compete in their Toys for Tots trophy race. He competed in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class and just missed the transfer from the B Main while running fast on Nessi tires in the rear, Fuzz Bites up front, Mono wheels and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing!

Next, let’s shoot down to Porter, TX to see how the team performed at the recent HARC (Houston Area RC Series) Toys for Tots race held at Mike’s Gulf Coast RC Raceway. Leading us off is team driver Brian Henn who competed in the 1/8 Electric Truggy and 1/8 Pro Electric Buggy classes.

He would finish 7th in e buggy and take the TQ and W in e truggy! His used Blue compound Reflex and Detox tires on his buggy while his winning truggy used Blue compound Reflex rubber.

His teammate Dillon Caldwell was also racing at this event and finished 4th overall in the 1/8 Pro Nitro Buggy class while using Blue compound Reflex tires!

Team driver Brian Germany competed in the 1/8 Open Nitro Buggy class and secured the TQ spot in the 3rd and final round of qualifying! In the main he would have some bad luck and settle for 10th place, but still his car was running fast that weekend on Green compound Detox tires!

Team driver Phi-Long Nguyen competed in both the 1/8 Pro Nitro and Electric buggy classes at this race, and he would finish 3rd in nitro buggy and took the TQ and win in e buggy! His bugs were equipped with S15 shells plus R2 and Blue compound Triple Dees.

Next, let’s zip down to Florida to the city of Newberry where Newberry RC Park is located at. This past weekend they held their 2022 Year End Christmas trophy race, and team driver Zach Griggs would set the TQ and take the W in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class!

His winning wheeler used Green compound Double Dees, a S2 lid, a Black Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Set and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing.

Also competing in this race was his teammate Vince McMahon in the 13.5 4wd and Open 2wd Buggy classes. In the 13.5 class he would finish 5th overall, while in the open 2wd class he would secure 3rd place! His 4wd car used Green compound Hybrids in the back with Green compound Sprinters up front. His 2wd ride used Green compound Rips up front with Double Dees V2 in the same compound in the rear.

Staying in the state we now check in with team driver Brian Miller who recently competed at Ron Jon Raceway in Brooksville for their 3rd Annual Wounded Warrior Projects race. He raced in the 17.5 Sprint class and would set the TQ and take the win while using various JConcepts aluminum accessories and Mono wheels!

Heading north we cross over into Georgia and head to the HobbyTown Columbus in the city of Columbus.

This past weekend they hosted the SHRL (SNAP HARD Racing League) Finals, and team driver Jason Westfall set the TQ and took the win in the 1/8 Pro Electric Buggy class! His winning ride used sanded down Green compound Reflex rubber.

Also competing at this race was his JConcepts teammate Chris VanRaemdonck. After the season points were tallied up he would finish 2nd overall in the Mod 4wd Buggy class, and was crowned the series champ in the Mod 2wd Buggy class! Both vehicles were equipped with Aqua compound Ellipses sanded to slicks, RM2 2.2″ Hard 2wd & 4wd Inserts, Mono wheels, a F2 body on his wheeler, a S2 body on his 2wd car and Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings.

Team driver Tom Sherman competed in two classes at this race. In 17.5 2wd Buggy class he would set the TQ and take the tone to tone win! He ran on Blue compound Ellipses sanded to slicks, Mono wheels, RM2 Clover Large Flange Wing Buttons and an Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing. He also competed in the Mod 2wd SCT class and would grab another TQ and finish 2nd on the podium! When the season points were added up he also take home the season title in this class too! For the finals he used Green compound Ellipses tires sanded to slicks along with a Hi-Flow SCT lid.

Staying in the state let’s now head over to Phil Hurd Raceway in the town of Savannah. They recently hosted the 2022 Georgia State Championship which saw nearly 100 entries! Team driver David Olsen competed in the 1/8 Pro Nitro and Electric Buggy classes, and he would finish 2nd in both while using Green compound Reflexes, S15 lids and Razor rear wings!

Heading up the coastline we stop in at Thunder Alley RC Speedway in Lucama, NC to get this next update from team driver Luis Diego. He visited this facility this past weekend to compete in their Dirt Oval World Championships and would finish 3rd overall in the Mod Sprint class!

Crossing the border now we meet up with team driver Javon Mallory who recently competed at Adrenaline RC Raceway in Winchester, VA. He raced in their final Winter Points event and would finish 2nd in 17.5 2wd Buggy and 1st place in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class! He only attended two rounds so he didn’t qualify for season awards, but he still had a great time and was running smooth on the following gear:

  • Silver and Green compound Ellipse tires
  • Mono wheels
  • S2 shells
  • Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing
  • 3.5mm Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Set

Heading further north into Maryland we now make our way to the The Track in the city of Gaithersburg. JC driver Jose Zayas recently visited there to compete in their Holiday Showdown race, and he would finish 2nd in 17.5 and 13.5 4wd Buggy, plus took the TQ and win in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class!

Our next tour stop is the state of Pennsylvania to check on the team competing at different events. Starting with team driver Matt Morris he recently competed at Richfield Raceway in the city of Richfield for their Trifecta Off-Road trophy event. He competed in three classes and set the TQ in the Mod 2wd Buggy and 13.5 Stadium Truck class, and he would go on to win in both, plus picked up a third W in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class! His bugs used S2 bodies, Mono wheels and Fuzz Bites tire on all four corners, while his truck used a Finnisher body, Swaggers in the front with Pin Downs in the back.

Our next stop in the state is at Trains and Lanes Hobbies in the town of Easton. They recently held a Christmas Cash Race and team driver Aydan Manchanda was there to compete in the 13.5 and Mod 4wd Buggy classes. After the racing had completed he would finish 3rd in 13.5 wheeler and took the TQ and win in the mod class! Both cars used Nessi tires in the rear with Swaggers up front.

Also competing at this race for the team was his brother Dylan Manchanda. He would wrap up the event by finishing 6th in Mod 2wd Buggy and 3rd in 17.5 2wd Buggy while using the same tire setup as Aydan!

Our next stop is at Grand River RC in Grandville, MI for this quick update from team driver Kyle Munson. Grand River recently held their Bad Santa trophy event and he competed in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class. At the end of the event he would set the TQ and take the win while running fast on Silver compound Ellipse tires sanded to slicks, Dirt-Tech inserts, 10th Scale Buggy Tire Inner Sidewall Support Adaptors and a F2 body!

Moving west let’s check in with team driver Joe Zaier Jr. who recently competed at the Christmas Classic held at Dollar Hobbyz in Woodbury, MN. He would finish 4th overall in the 13.5 4wd and 17.5 2wd Buggy classes while using our Fuzz Bite tires, lightweight F2 lids and Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings!

Moving southwest let’s stop in at Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. This past weekend they ran Round 2 of their Winter Series which saw 232 entries! Team driver Mason Herrick competed in both the Expert 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes and would finish a solid 5th place in both! His buggies were equipped with Gold compound Ellipses, Bullet wheels, a S15 body and Razor wings!

Also competing for the team this past weekend was fellow JC driver Brandon Kearney. He would compete in three classes and finish 9th in Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy, set the TQ and finished 2nd in 1/8 Electric Truggy and took the W in 1/8 Nitro Truggy! His vehicles were equipped with the following fast products:

  • Gold Compound Ellipse tires
  • Bullet wheels
  • S15 body
  • F2 body
  • F2I wing

Team driver Bradley Peterson also competed in Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy, and would finish 8th overall while running Gold Compound Ellipse tires and a S15 shell!

Now let’s head out to Washington to get a few updates from the team competing at different events. Our first stop in the state is at Tacoma RC Raceway in Tacoma. This past weekend they hosted Round 2 of the NIS (Northwest Indoor Series) which saw 150 entries! Team driver Austin Cracknell competed in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, and he would finish 2nd in Mod 2wd and set the TQ and took the W in wheeler! For this recent round he used Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires, RM2 2.2″ Hard 2wd & 4wd Inserts, Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings and F2 lids, and joining him on the Mod 4wd Buggy podium in 2nd place was his JC teammate Harley Yoshii!

Team driver Derek Mesa also competed at this round in the same two classes. At the end of the day he would finish 4th in Mod 4wd and 3rd in Mod 2wd! His buggies were running fast with Silver compound Smoothie 2 tires and Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings.

Our final report this week comes to us courtesy of team driver Robert Sorjonen. He recently competed in Round 2 of the DieHard RC Experience held at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in the city of Monroe. He raced in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class and set the TQ and finished 2nd overall while using Nessi tires in the rear with Swaggers up front!
