Race Team Update – January 2023 Week #3

It was another busy weekend of racing for the JConcepts team as they continue to put in work around the globe! Read more about our winning ways in this fresh edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report in Blue Springs, MO where Fastlane Raceway is located. This past weekend they held their 2023 January Jam trophy race which brought in nearly 200 entries! Let’s see how the team finished up starting with JC driver Nick Gibson.

He would compete in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes and double down with a TQ and W in both!

Team driver Matthew Pyle competed in the 17.5 2wd Buggy and 13.5 Short Course Truck classes. He would finish 4th overall in the 17.5 class and took the TQ and win in SCT!

Team driver Braxten Culley also raced in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes and finished 3rd in the 2wd class and 2nd in wheeler!

JConcepts driver Shane Alberico competed in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. He would finish 2nd in the 17.5 class and took the TQ and win in the 13.5 class!

JC pilot Emerson Sturgeon also raced in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. He would finish right behind Shane in 13.5 4wd. and he set the TQ and took the win in the 17.5 class!

Moving north we now stop in at Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. They just wrapped up their carpet series and team driver Alex Sturgeon reported that he took the title in the Mod 2wd Buggy class!

His son Emerson was racing at Fastlane this past weekend as we noted earlier, but that didn’t stop him from taking the title in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class!

Also competing in this series was team driver Mike Sanders. After the season points were calculated he would finish 3rd overall in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class and 2nd place in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class!

Moving even further north let’s visit the “Land of 10,000 lakes” to get a few updates from the team competing at different events. Starting with team driver Austin Jacobson he recently competed at Thunder Road RC Raceway in Waite Park, MN for their January trophy race. He raced in three classes and finished 9th in Expert 13.5 4wd Buggy, 5th in Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy and set the TQ and finished 2nd in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class!

Also competing at this race was fellow JC driver Brayden Nelson in the Expert 13.5 4wd and 17.5 2wd Buggy classes. He would finish in 4th in the wheeler class and locked up 2nd place in the 17.5 class!

Now let’s check in with team driver Christopher Malooly who competed at a few tracks throughout the state. On Friday he raced at MMR³ in Minneapolis for their off-road carpet series and finished the night 4th overall in 17.5 2wd Buggy! Then on Saturday and Sunday he competed at 510 Raceway in the city of Foley for their Sub Zero Challenge event. He entered the Mod and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes and at the end of the weekend he would finish 3rd in both!

Crossing the stateline we head to Trackside Hobbies in Brookfield, WI to get our next update from JC driver Josh Hohnstein. He recently competed in their 2023 Chili Dump event which saw over 200 entries! He signed up for the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes, and he would finish 7th in the 13.5 class, and took the win in the 17.5 class!

Leaping over Lake Michigan we splash down at RC ONE in Macomb, MI for our next team update. This past weekend they held Round 4 of their Midwest Carpet Off-Road Series, and team drivers Michael and Evan Ciresi signed up to race in a few classes.

Michael would miss out on the transfer spot for the A Main in 13.5 4wd Buggy, but his son Evan made the main and finished in 8th, plus he also finished 6th in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class!

Dribbling over to Indiana let’s stop in at Bill’s RC Raceway in the city of Marion. They recently held a vintage race event that included classes such as rear motor stadium truck and pre 1997 buggy! Team driver Justin Green competed in the 17.5 and Vintage 2wd Buggy classes. He has some tough luck in both mains to finish with a DNF, but he did TQ the Vintage class earlier in the race program!

Also competing at this event was his tire teammate Adam Rayls in the Vintage Buggy and Rear Motor Stadium Truck classes. He would TQ the truck class and go on to take the win in both classes!

Heading out east let’s stop in at The Track in Gaithersburg, MD for our next team update. They recently held Round 2 of the USRC Winter Series and JConcepts driver Jose Zayas was there to compete in three different classes. He would finish the day in 3rd place for both the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes, plus he took the win in the Stadium Truck class!

Now we shoot down to Texas to check on the team competing at opening round of the Thornhill Championship Series in the city of Hutto.

Starting with team driver Kayty Roxberry she let us know that she finished 10th in the Expert 1/8 Nitro Electric class, and locked up 4th place in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class!

Team driver Billy DiCorte Jr. let us know that he finished the round 10th overall in the Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy class, 8th place in the Expert 1/8 Electric Buggy class, and he also took the W in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class!

JC driver Dillon Caldwell also competed in the Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy class and he would take the win! Joining him on the podium in 3rd place was fellow JC driver Robbie Darby!

Flying out west let’s touch down in Anaheim, CA where Thunder Alley is located. This past weekend they held the TNR A Main Challenge which saw nearly 700 entries! Team driver Phi-Long Nguyen finished 2nd in the Pro 1/8 Nitro Truggy class, plus he took the W in the Open 1/8 Electirc Truggy class! Joining him on the Pro 1/8 Nitro Truggy podium in first place was fellow JConcepts driver Ryan Maifield!

Our next stop is at Tacoma RC Raceway in Tacoma, WA. This past weekend they ran Round 3 of their NIS (Northwest Indoor Series) which saw nearly 150 entries! Team driver Brannon Beauchamp competed in the Mod 2wd Buggy class and he locked up the final spot on the podium! He also finished 3rd in the Mod 4wd Buggy class, and joining him on the Mod 2wd podium were teammates Harley Yoshii in 2nd and Austin Cracknell in 1st to complete the JConcepts podium sweep!

Speaking of Austin not only did he TQ and win in the Mod 2wd class, but he also took the TQ and win in the Mod 4wd Buggy class as well!

Now let’s get some updates from our international team. This past weekend was the Tundra Winter Champs at CTSR (Circuit Teleguide St-Roch) Raceway in Quebec, Canada which saw 169 entries.

Team driver Kevin Lachapelle reported that he competed in three different classes at this three day event, and he finished 15th in 13.5 4wd Buggy, 9th in 17.5 2wd Buggy, and he also took the win in the Mod Stadium Truck class!

His tire teammate Guillaume Tremblay also competed in three classes too, and he took the TQ and win in he Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes as well as Mini Truggy!

JC driver David L’Ecuyer competed in the same classes and finished 6th in the buggy classes and 2nd overall in mini truggy!

JConcepts driver Xavier Belanger also competed in both Mod buggy classes and finished 5th in Mod 2wd and 4th in Mod 4wd!

Team driver Jordan Miles raced in both the mod buggy classes as well and finished 3rd in Mod 2wd and 2nd in Mod 4wd!

Now let’s go down to Australia for a few updates from the team competing at various events.

Starting with JC driver Darren Johnston he reported that he competed at the first round of the 2023 West Australian EP Interclub series held at West Coast Model RC. He competed in the Mod 4wd Buggy class and would secure 4th place overall!

He competed in the SummerSlam event held at Wodonga on their outdoor red dirt track surface, and he took the wins in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes!
