In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Missouri team driver, Chris Tolbert!
1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?
I heard about RC monster truck racing through watching the real thing. I saw them racing RC trucks at a real monster truck event, and I was hooked. I went on to compete in Retro, Sport, and Promod Monster Truck racing with Trigger King RC.
2. In your opinion, what needs to be done to make RC more “mainstream” and get more people involved?
I believe that selling hobby grade radio control products in more conventional stores would help bring more people into the hobby. Hobby shops are starting to become rarer, unfortunately.
3. For this year, what races are you looking forward to attending and why?
I look forward to our monthly Trigger King RC racing series this summer. I took last year off, but I’m ready to hop back in and win some more trophies.
4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.
It is a brand new item, but I haven’t heard many talk about it. The 17mm Hex Axle Kit for the Losi LMT is a must-have when upgrading to the Aggressor wheels. They provide a rock solid, secure feel for your wheels. A confidence boost is always welcome on the track!
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
I grew up loving full-size monster trucks. I even briefly worked at Bigfoot 4×4 based out of Pacific, MO. Lately, though, I find myself enjoying working with kids. I help out with junior and senior high youth at the Discover Life Church in Cape Girardeau, and knowing I’m making a difference in the kids’ lives is a “hobby” that I truly find fulfilling.
