Race Team Update – August 2023 Week #1

The first week of racing in August is in the books, and it looks like there is no stopping the JConcepts race team! Read about our winning ways in this new edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report out at Cabinet Mountain Raceway in Libby, MT.

This past weekend they held the Hot August Showdown, and team driver Brenden Bartlett raced in both the 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes where he finished 2nd place in both!

Next we head to the coast and visit Coyote Hobbies Indoor RC Raceway in Victorville, CA. This past weekend they held their 13th Annual JConcepts MidSummer Shootout.

Team driver Jeff Guest was at this event and he competed in the 13.5 Stadium Truck and 40+ 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. In truck he would start 2nd for the AAA mains and take home 1st place after winning in A1 and A3! In buggy he would set the TQ and take home the win after winning both A1 and A2 of the AAA mains!

Shooting over to Texas let’s catch up with team driver Rhett McNair. He recently went to RCCA (RC Car Club of America) in Fort Worth to compete in their recent Summer Series round. He signed up for the Mod 2wd Buggy class and would set the TQ and take home the W!

Moving north let’s head to Taylor Park RC Raceway in Yukon, OK to get this quick update from team driver Tyler Keel. He recently competed there for their 6th points series night, and would take the TQ and win in the Outlaw Sprint class!

Making a diagonal into Missouri we meet up with JConcepts driver Jeremy Cathlina. This past weekend he was also turning left hand laps at Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs for Round 5 of their Saturday Slideways Series. He competed in three classes, and would finish 2nd in the Open Latemodel class, 1st in the Midwest Mod, and also took the TQ and win in the Open Sprint class!

Heading up I-35 to Iowa we veer off to the town of Leighton where the Leighton Speedway is located. This past weekend they held their Leighton Nationals which saw nearly 120 entries!

Team driver David Fast competed in this event, and when the night was over he would finish 4th in the B Main for 410 Sprint, 6th in the A Main for Latemodel and 4th overall in 360 Sprint!

Jumping back on I-35 let’s now head north to Blooming Prairie, MN where Southern Minnesota RC Raceway is located at. Team driver Joe Zaier Jr. and his son Joe Zaier III recently attended an Ironman race held there that featured vehicle classes ranging from 1/10 to 1/5 in size. They both competed in the 1/5 class, and after a seeding round Joe Zaier Jr. would start 1st overall for the AAA Mains! He would go on to win A1, but disaster struck in A2 as his engine blew up on him. He wasn’t able to get his vehicle fixed for A3, but his son Joe Zaier III was able to finish 3rd overall after all the mains!

Crossing the stateline into Wisconsin let’s now head to the city of New Franken where Dirt Heaven Hobby and Raceway is located.

This past weekend they held Round 4 of their Summer Series and JConcepts driver Ryan Derenne competed in Mod 2wd Buggy, Stadium Truck and 1/8 Electric Truggy. In e truggy he would finish the round in 11th place, he took 7th place in truck and he also finished 4th overall in mod buggy!

Also competing at this event for the team was JC driver Richie Peters in the Stadium Truck and 1/8 Electric Buggy classes. He would take the win in truck and also grabbed the TQ and win in e buggy too!

Next, we send it south to Saratoga-Flowood RC Raceway in Magee, MS for our next report. Team driver Hunter King recently raced at their 2023 Bring The Heat event that brought in 163 entries! He signed up for the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy and Truggy classes, and would set the TQ and take the win in both classes!

Heading to sunny Florida, we get this update from team driver Brian Miller. This past weekend he went to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala to compete in Round 5 of their points series. He made the quarter final round with his Drag Slash before getting eliminated from the race!

Heading up the coastline let’s now make our way to Tiltyard in Dayton, VA. This past weekend they held their 2023 Tilted Worlds that brought out 167 entries! Let’s see how the team finished up starting with JC driver Jose Zayas.

He signed up for the Pro and 40+ 1/8 Electric Buggy classes as well as 1/8 Electric Truggy. In the 40+ class he would finish 8th overall, in e truggy he locked up 7th place and in pro e buggy he would take the win!

Team driver Bella Rogers raced in both the 1/8 Electric Buggy and Truggy classes. When the dust had settled she would finish 7th for the day in e buggy and took the W in e truggy!

Team driver Rusty Mihelich brought out the family for this event. Rusty raced in both the 40+ 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes, and in nitro he would break out in the main to finish in 11th place, while in e buggy he locked up the 2nd podium spot!

Maddy Long would competed in four classes at this race. In the Invitational 1/8 Electric Buggy class she would finish 10th overall, in the Invitational 1/8 Nitro Buggy class she locked up 5th place, in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class she finished a solid 6th overall, and in the 1/8 Nitro Truggy class she grabbed the 2nd podium spot! She also earns our coveted “ironman” award for competing in four classes this week too!

Stacey Mihelich competed in the Open 1/8 Electric Buggy class and she finished 7th overall in the C Main!

Continuing up the coast let’s now check out a new track called Jersey RC Racing Promotions in Toms River, NJ. Team driver Tom Petrella was there to compete in their inaugural race and he signed up in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class. After their first event was in the books he was able to take 3rd overall!

Making our way up further to the Northeast let’s now stop in at Hobby, Etc in Manchester, NH. This past weekend they hosted the New Hampshire State Champs, and team driver Daniel Sedler signed up in the Mini Truggy and 1/8 Electric Buggy classes. He would finish the event with a TQ and 4th place finish in mini truggy, plus a TQ and win in e buggy!

His tire teammate Michael Fredericks also finished 2nd on the podium in e buggy, plus he also set the TQ and took the win in the Mod 4wd Buggy class too!

Now let’s get some updates from our international team. Our first update is from Bego Racing RC Raceway in Napierville, QC, Canada for Round 4 of the Quebec RC Series. Team driver Daemon Holon was at this event and TQed both the 1/8 Nitro and Electric Truggy classes! He would go on to finish 5th in nitro truggy, 2nd in e truggy, and he took home the W in 1/8 Nitro Buggy! Joining him on the nitro buggy podium was fellow JConcepts teammate Brian Ross (TQ and 2nd)!

Our final report this week comes to us courtesy of Canadian team driver Peter Tozser. He and his daughter Brittany went to the RC GEARS in Calgary, AB, Canada to compete in their Nitro Stampede trophy event. At the end of the race he would finish 2nd in both the 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes, while she took the wins in the 1/8 Nitro and Electric Truggy classes!
