In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Maryland team driver, Chris Fokianos!
1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?
I got started with RC bashing around with a Traxxas Rustler in parking lots and parks. The first time I stepped foot into a real indoor off-road track it was off to the races for me. I was hooked!
2. For this remainder of this year, what races are you looking forward to attending and why?
The races I look forward to attending the remainder of the year is The Masters of Dirt at Beach RC and The 2nd annual Team Associated Mid-Atlantic Fall Championship race at The Track in Gaithersburg MD.
3. On many indoor dirt off-road tracks it seems like the hot ticket is to run slicks. Do you prefer slightly treaded tires or slicks? And why do you think things have moved this way?
Me personally I prefer to run a slicks and I believe more tracks are starting to become this way because tracks are now starting to seal the dirt with adhesives which makes traction go up which makes slicks the perfect tire to run on. A treaded tire would be much slower and probably wouldn’t produce the grip a slick does.
4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.
One JConcepts product I feel is overlooked but I find it very useful is the RM2 Flywheel Wrench which works on four shoe clutch flywheels.
5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?
One skill or hidden talent I have that people don’t really know about is I’m very good at picking up musical instruments and learning to play by ear.
