Friday5 With Team Driver Lukas Klein

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Illinois team driver, Lukas Klein!

1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?

I got started with the RC hobby on my 5th birthday where I got an Axial Wraith and have been in the hobby for over 10 years now. I’ve always been very competitive so I’ve never ran in the kids class and from day one I’ve ran in the adult class because I’ve always wanted a challenge because sometimes it’s fun to see the heads turn when I drive. In the crawling industry there are many classes and the classes vary depending on where you are driving so run many different classes, but sometimes it’s also nice to bring out the trail truck and run some batteries.

2. For the remainder of this year, what races are you looking forward to attending and why?

For the remainder of the year I plan on attending one more big event in Oklahoma called Crawlapalooza. This will be my second year there and my first year I was lucky enough to take home 3rd in Class 1 and Class 3, and this year I’m planning on running a few more classes. I’m also planning on attending all of the remaining events at Crawler Canyon RC Park.

3. In your opinion, what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing, or RC in general?

In my opinion the best way to increase the participation in RC is to show them good manufacturers for upgrades, and give them tips to help them improve. Anyone new coming into the hobby is another chance to grow the hobby.

4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?

To this date my absolute favorite JConcepts product is the 4.75″ Tusks and I think there are many people who would agree.

5. What other hobbies are you into besides RC cars?

Besides my RC hobby my next favorite hobby would be just a bit bigger being 1:1 crawling. My dad and I have many off-road vehicles built for rock crawling and trailing. Most of our rigs start out as a Samurai and end up mostly all tubing with big tires.
