In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Michigan team driver, Dan Wyatt!
1. When did you get your start in RC racing? Did you bash cars at first or jumped right into the racing scene?
My dad got me started in the RC hobby back in 1988 with the Tamiya Bruiser. After a couple years enjoying the hobby at home, he took me to visit Riders Super Speedway in Canton, MI and I was immediately hooked on the racing scene. My first real race truck was the RC10T, and later I switched to Losi trucks.
2. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date AND why?
I believe the biggest technological advancement in the RC world would have to be the introduction of 2.4GHz radios. I used to run a fleet of trucks when attending races, and that was always a challenge to keep up with.
3. When you aren’t competing at the track, how do you quench your RC thirst? Do you work on your car, listen to a RC podcast, watch some racing videos, read RC magazines or books, etc?
When not competing with RC, I volunteer my time at the International Monster Truck Museum and Hall of Fame. Since I now exclusively race RC monster trucks, my interests go hand in hand with the full size trucks. I also enjoy watching RC build videos on YouTube as you can always pick up new tips and tricks from others.
4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.
One JConcepts product that I feel is very overlooked would be the Traxxas Slash 4×4 Suspension Conversion Set. Its bulletproof, and I can attest to that through the punishment I put one through at the 2017 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Competition.
5. What other hobbies are you into besides RC cars?
Currently, my other hobby has been my career working with automation in the automotive industry. It can be very challenging, yet rewarding at the same time.
