2024 ROAR 1/10th Dirt Off-Road Nationals JConcepts Team Report

The JConcepts team had a standout weekend at the 2024 ROAR 1/10th Scale Dirt Off-Road Nationals hosted by Beach RC in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The track surface and grip level threw drivers for a bit of a loop but ultimately the team was able to figure it out and prevail in the end.

The team started on the tried and true Silver Compound Smoothie 2.0s to kick things off for the week on Wednesday. The Silver compound was leaving a little to be desired for some drivers mostly in the modified classes so the Aqua (A2) compound was broken out and gave racers like Spencer Rivkin and Dakotah Phend the feeling they were looking for.

Thursday would have seeding for qualifying order and the team would get off to a solid start:

2wd Modified Buggy: 3rd Spencer Rivkin, 4th Dakotah Phend, 5th Broc Champlin
4wd Modified Buggy: 4th Dakotah Phend, 5th Spencer Rivkin
Modified Truck: 2nd Spencer Rivkin, 4th Broc Champlin, 5th Tom Rinderknecht
17.5 2wd Buggy: 4th Sammy Moran, 5th Hunter King

Moving into qualifying consistency would be rewarded more over raw pace and the JConcepts drivers would continue moving towards the top of the sheets. Drivers were still utilizing both Silver and Aqua compound to get the job done.

The JConcepts drivers would continue to build and would peak at the right time to take multiple wins and show the speed they were capable of.

2wd Modified Buggy: 2wd Modified would be a battle for the ages between Spencer Rivkin and Aydin Horne. In A1 Aydin and Spencer would both make mistakes allowing Dakotah Phend into the lead. Dakotah would lead for a bit before making his own mistake. This would allow Aydin to strike first and get the A1 win ahead of Spencer. Spencer would lead a much more straight forward A2 with Aydin just behind and again Dakotah in 3rd. This would lead to a two man showdown in A3. Everyone else was already statistically unable to win the event it was just between Rivkin and Horne. Spencer would take advantage of his 1st place starting spot and one again lead tone-to-tone to take the championship in the class! Aydin would once again get 2nd to solidify his 2nd in class and Dakotah Phend would end up 3rd in the class.

1st Spencer Rivkin (JC), 2nd Aydin Horne, 3rd Dakotah Phend (JC)

4wd Modified Buggy: In A1, TQ Aydin Horne would make a mistake on the 2nd lap allowing Spencer Rivkin to take over the lead. Spencer wouldn’t give it up all the way to the end but the margin to second would be tight at the end with Chase Lemieux just .5 seconds back. Aydin would rebound for a 3rd. In A2 Aydin would lead for 3/4th of the race before Spencer would take over the lead. Spencer would hold on for the win which would give him the overall championship in this class as well in just 2 mains. Aydin would finish 2nd in this one with Broc Champlin in 3rd. All was to play for in A3 for the 2 and 3 spots on the podium. Aydin would take a tone to tone victory ahead of Tater Sontag who would battle with Broc Champlin for the majority of the race. Broc would have to settle for 3rd.
