In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to South Carolina team driver, Rob Lupo!
1. Ok let’s start with how you got first involved in RC. Did you pick it up from someone, stumbled across a local track, etc.?
While in high school I used to build car models. I built most of all the NASCAR models at the time and went to local hobby shop in Savannah, GA. The owner asked if I have ever thought of building a remote control car. I said no of course and he sold me an Team Associated RC10T stadium truck. I then went to SCORE series and attempted to race, but didn’t have much money so was more like just running here and there with it.
2. For 2024 what races, series, or other RC related event are you looking forward to attending and why?
I’ll be doing a lot of the RaceTime Entertainment events, East Coast races and series in the Carolinas. I’m also getting married this year so it’s not as much as I want, but I will be out there.
3. If you have been racing for a while now you have probably glued up 100s of tires. So what gluing tips do you have for beginning racers?
For gluing tips, use new glue. Once it’s been opened for awhile it tends to dry out and not be the best. Next is to clean your tires really good. Whatever you use, Simple Green, Acetone, brake cleaner, etc. just make sure the tire is really clean and dry before gluing.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why?
I like the accessories. JConcepts has a lot of little things to make your life in the pits better and more organized. Like the Metal Car Stands or Curved Pliers. Keep it simple is key.
5. Obviously you are into RC racing but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?
Well I like anything racing. For awhile I did VRC-PRO. Now I am big into iRacing. It’s like RC all over again where you think you’re fast until you line up against people who have been doing it for awhile, and it really breaks you down and makes you want to work harder.
