JConcepts now has a host of accessory parts available for the Regulator chassis conversion kit. While designing the conversion, the design team took things an additional step by re-designing the entire axle housing and ladder bar assembly based on the original Clod Buster layout. This optimized layout provides several new updates and unlocks even more potential from the JConcepts Regulator. The parts include transmission housing halves, axle tubes, steering blocks, ladder bars, lower link connectors, and connector bar support. JConcepts offers an extensive list of items which can be purchased through our Shapeways store. In order to take advantage of some of these updates, it is necessary to use the below items in conjunction with the Shapeways parts to completely outfit the vehicle in performance condition.
Below, walk through the design of the optimized parts for the Regulator axle assembly and check the brief description of each to learn more about the product improvement.
A new video highlight showing the entire regulator chassis assembly together with Shapeways parts…
Regulator transmission case –
The transmission case has undergone many improvements by eliminating items which are no longer used with the use of the JConcepts Behind Axle Steering kit. The team spent a considerable amount of time removing geometry, slimming down the size and replacing bolt and nut together features with single screw solutions. During these updates and changes, it was possible to incorporate sliding motor capability so users can now change motor pinions to try new gear ratios in events where it is legal to do so. The Regulator transmission case is a major upgrade to the Retro truck scene and it doesn’t end there. Two of each case is needed to build two complete transmissions.
In addition, #2864 and #2866 are needed for motor mounting, movement and clamping.
If a locked rear axle is used, the #2867 is needed to brace the new rear transmission case.

Regulator axle tubes –
Axle tubes on the Regulator have been substantially changed to allow caster. Two holes provide an option of 2.5 degrees in either direction so the truck can be built in an advantageous direction for steering geometry in the front and for rear suspension movement in the rear. A total of four of these parts are required to build two complete transmissions.

Regulator steering knuckle –
Updated steering knuckles have an improved and slimmed down design providing the correct positioning of the bearings and beefy platform for fiberglass steering arms (#2868, available separately) which bolt-on for added security. A total of 4 of these parts are required to build two complete transmissions.
In addition, fiberglass steering arms will be needed, part #2868.

Regulator lower link – Left & Right
The Regulator lower links are now assembled from the front to make builds and re-builds that much more simple. The 2-piece design now builds around the axle tubes and there is a shock mount located on each piece which also featuring a facing position. In addition, the new links have been built with more tire clearance so the vehicle can have a tighter turning radius with only using the JConcepts Behind Axle Steering kit on one end. Two parts of each will be required to build two complete axle assemblies.

Regulator lower link closure –
The new front facing closure has been designed to work along with the lower links to simplify the opening and closing of the bars for builds and re-builds. The item wraps around the front-side of the axle tube and also provides the outside shock position in a small simple unit. A total of four of these parts are required to build two complete axle assemblies.

Regulator lower link connector bar –
The lower link connector bars have been re-designed to accommodate the updated transmission case, sliding motor ability and simplified with smooth surface and countersunk screw heads. One side is equipped with the connected end to brace the transmission and prevent the rolling during acceleration and deceleration. Two parts of each will be required to build two complete axle assemblies.

Regulator transmission connector bar support –
The transmission connector bar support needed an update to maintain correct distance with updated transmission and also bolt to the new lower link connector bar. The design locks down on the connector bar and provides the brace from one to the other. Two parts of each will be required to build two complete axle assemblies.

Regulator motor mount cover, 2pc (Fits – Regulator transmission case)
Part# 2864
JConcepts has produced a motor mount cover for the Regulator transmission case that enables gearing changes. The all-aluminum, machined plate is slotted for movement, fits 3mm hardware with washers and works only with #2866 longer motor mount tubes. This cover works with the Transmission case designed by JConcepts and available through the Shapeways store to help drivers further push out the development and functionality of the Regulator chassis kit for the Clod Buster.
Features:
• Machined aluminum, black anodized
• Slotted design, silver chamfer edging
• Two pieces included per package
Aluminum motor mount tube, 4pc (Fits – Regulator transmission case and motor mount cover)
Part# 2866
The Regulator transmission case has the ability to move the motor for gearing changes and requires the #2866 aluminum motor mount tubes to be longer and work in conjunction with the #2864 motor mount cover. The aluminum motor mount tubes are longer and machined to fit precisely into the 3D printed transmission case and slide inside the motor mount cover. The items are packaged with 4 pieces per package and are anodized black for a great quality look and feel.
Features:
• Machined aluminum, black anodized
• Longer length to work in conjunction with machined motor cover
• Four pieces included per package
Regulator rear steering lock-out (Fits – Regulator transmission case)
Part# 2867
The Regulator transmission case is slightly revised in geometry and in order to lock the rear steering, a new steering lock-out is needed. The new fiberglass item is beefy and designed for strength and keeps the rear locked in position. This is extremely important for events and courses running in a straight-line and require great tracking ability. Used in combination with the JConcepts Behind Axle Steering kit, the lock-out is a key to push the Regulator transmission case and assembly to the most competitive level.
Features:
• Machined fiberglass, 3mm thickness
• Geometry matched to 3D printed Regulator transmission case
Regulator steering arms, 4pc (Fits – Regulator steering knuckle)
Part# 2868
One of the most important parts to upgrade on the Clod Buster and to use in combination with the Regulator conversion kit are the Regulator steering knuckles on Shapeways by JConcepts. The knuckles require the use of the steering arms built with fiberglass in 4mm thickness which are precision machined to fit the knuckles. The steering arms arrive 4 pieces per package and bolt to the knuckles for the best control, steering clearance and position to take advantage of all the changes of the JConcepts competition chassis vehicle and accompanying upgrade parts.
Features:
• Machined fiberglass, 4mm thickness

I have my Regulator and Shapeways parts on the way but could not figure out one more part. What combination of 12mm AE V2 shock bodies and shafts are people using for these? I have watched the videos but can’t tell what sizes were used to equal 100mm. Any help would be appreciated.
Very cool parts. I looked at the Shapeways site and could not figure out which of the two materials offered, the black nylon or if the PA12 that is slightly cheaper is the better option? Not as much worried about the $3 price difference as I am the durability.
Also, there is mention that the gear cases used different hardware but I did not see what type/size of hardware to use instead of the stock
We originally always used the Black Natural Versatile Plastic with great results. Recently we switched over to the Black PA12 and have been liking it just as much and it’s a little cheaper. Can’t go wrong either way.
We have a breakdown of the hardware, I’ll add it to the post above…
Perfect. Thank you!
