Adam Drake Track Tire Guide & Report – LCRC Raceway

This past weekend the JConcepts race team returned to LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills, PA for the 2021 Mugen Challenge. Nearly two months ago this same track hosted the 2021 ROAR 1:8 Off-Road Fuel Nationals. This race was just as big as they saw 383 entries from 192 drivers competing in 12 different classes. So the team took all the info they gained at the ROAR event and put it to work at the Mugen Challenge.

The event kicked off Thursday morning with a driver clinic that was put on by Mugen/JConcepts driver Adam Drake. No one in the industry puts in more hours and laps driving a nitro off-road vehicle than Drake. He walked drivers around the track to teach them about racing lines, and how he runs his personal nitro program to get consistent results. Then practice began for drivers later from 4-8pm. On Friday practice ran from 10am to 8pm and that night a dirt oval race was held on a nearby track.

Qualifying began right before 8am and each class ran against the clock for five minutes. There were three rounds of qualifying that day and each round consisted of 34 heats! After qualifying had completed Drake was the class TQ in 1/8 Nitro Truggy and 1/8 Expert Electric and Nitro Buggy!

On Sunday morning the lower mains began at 8am sharp. Each 1/8 electric main ran for 6 minutes while the nitro mains ran for 15. In the 1/8 Nitro Truggy A main Drake would lead the field until an electrical problem retired him from the field early. This allowed JConcepts teammate Bryan Kata to take the lead and come away with the victory!
