In this Product Spotlight we take a closer look at the new winning combo from JConcepts designed for 1/8 racers.
On any given race day or practice session at the track, a driver will remove and install tires multiple times as they test out different tire treads and compounds to gain an edge on the competition. Sometimes this can happen during warm up laps for a long A Main as a driver quickly realizes the track conditions have changed since their last run, and a complete tire swap is needed. Every second counts towards the ultimate goal of finishing first on the podium, so scrambling to find a dropped nut in pit lane can cost your race team valuable time. That’s where this new winning combo from JConcepts can help you achieve your ultimate goal.
Let’s first take a look at the 17mm Finnisher Magnetic T-handle Wrench.
This wrench is constructed from both aluminum and steel materials and anodized in blue. It will help you to install or remove wheel nuts that are used in today’s 1/8 nitro and electric vehicles. It is compatible with traditional serrated wheel nuts and our new 17mm Finnisher Serrated / Magnetic Wheel Nuts that I’ll cover in a bit.
The wrench’s T-handle will allow you to grip it firmly and add enough force to make sure your wheel nuts are secured for a long main.
Another nice feature of this wrench is that when it is in use the T-handle has just enough clearance so you can spin it without coming into contact with the ground.
If you are using magnetic wheel nuts then we’ve got you covered since a small magnet has been inserted inside the wrench. This will keep the nut in place once it is removed so you don’t drop it in pit lane or have it roll off your pit table.
The Finnisher 17mm Serrated / Magnetic Wheel Nuts are also anodized in blue and each package includes four nuts.
Their design features a large, serrated area that help them to lock into place on the wheels. These are also designed with a large flange and clamping surface area which will help to maintain geometry during flex and load.
They are kept lightweight thanks to areas of material that have been removed which also gives them that distinctive “Fin” look that has become a staple of JConcepts products. The outer surface of these nuts showcase three JC logos that have been etched into it. You can use these new wheel nuts with a traditional wrench, but the included set screws would not be needed.
If you do opt to use the set screws with our new wrench, it is recommended to add a small amount of glue to each set screw and then install them from inside of the nut with a 2mm hex driver.
Position the set screw so it just touches the magnet inside the wrench and has enough holding power.
Allow the glue to properly cure in that position before you use them on your vehicle.
Another advantage of adding the set screw is that it will close the end of the nut to help keep dirt and debris from building up in the hub or axle.
