In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Minnesota team driver, Tony Sletten!
1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?
My dad and I went to a local hobby shop and bought a Traxxas T-Maxx and we started bashing. At first we were going to a local track, but it wasn’t too long until we built our own at home (Loosenuts Raceway).
2. In your opinion, what classes have you noticed that seem to be in a decline? And how would you try to resolve this so there is more participation?
Around here stadium truck is a very small class. I would promote it as a good class to learn the hobby. The racer will gain experience and skills with a 2wd vehicle that is easier to learn from as opposed to a 2wd buggy. More enjoyment from the start.
3. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date AND why?
I would say 2.4ghz radios. No more getting that random glitch because somebody turned on their radio on the same frequency and waiting for someone to return the frequency clip. And no more radio impounds.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
My favorite JConcepts product is the Detox tire. It’s always been a super consistent tire in a lot of conditions. It’s a tire that is easy to drive for longer mains and you know you will have tread the whole main.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
During the winter I enjoy going snowmobiling and in the summer playing disc golf.
