Friday5 With Team Driver Jarret Smith

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Wisconsin team driver, Jarret Smith!

1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?

I first got into RC by bashing. I was about 13 or 14 when I got a Traxxas Slash for Christmas from my parents, and after bashing for hours I ended up breaking quite a few things so I had to get parts. So I went to a local hobby shop and that’s what led me to finding out about racing. I never really knew much about it, and at first I never got into it. Flash forward about four years and I bought a 2wd buggy and started racing carpet off-road.

2. For this year, what races are you looking forward to attending and why?

I’m looking forward to three races for sure; the 2022 Buggy Champs at Trackside Hobbies and Raceway, INS12 at the Hoosier RC Hobbyplex and NCTS at Thunder Road RC Raceway. All of these events are great and I had a blast at them last year! Can’t wait to do it again!

3. In your opinion, what needs to be done to make RC more “mainstream” and get more people involved?

To make something mainstream you got to promote with the most popular social media methods, such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. If more people made videos and shared stuff on these platforms, I think this sport could grow quite well.

4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?

To date my favorite JConcepts product is the Aluminum Ride Height Gauge. Super sleek and easy to use, plus it comes with a case to keep it nice!

5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?

While RC is my biggest hobby, I recently got into firearms and can’t wait to grow my collection!
