Race Team Update – February 2022 Week #4

The JConcepts race team makes short work of the competition in the year’s shortest month as they keep things rolling on the track! Read about our winning ways in this last Race Team Update for February!

We start this week’s report down in sunny Cocoa, FL where Beachline Raceway is located at. Recently they held their 1st session of their Carpet Wars series and team driver Brett Kingsbury competed in three classes: Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy, Mod 2wd Buggy and 13.5 4wd Buggy.

After some close battles on the track he would land the W in all of them! Aiding him in the victories were the following JConcepts gear:

  • Fuzz Bite tires
  • S2 bodies
  • Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wings
  • B6.3 Front Wing
  • Aero Rear Diffuser For B6.1 | T6.1 | SC6.1

Now we head up to Savannah, GA to check on the team competing at Phil Hurd Raceway for their recent 2022 Colonel’s Winter Classic. Starting with team driver David Olsen he reports that set the TQ and took home 5th in Nitro Truggy while running on A2 compound Ellipse and Reflex tire plus Bullet rims! In the Pro Nitro Buggy class he would lock up second place while running on A2 compound Reflex tires!

 

Also competing at this event was teammate Logan Cowick in the same two classes plus E Buggy. In E Buggy he would run into a mechanical gremlin and have to retire early in the main and finish in 5th place. But his luck was better in the other two classes and he took a double win plus the TQ in the Pro Nitro Buggy class! Aiding him in his wins were the following JC widgets:

  • Silver compound ReHabs
  • Bullet wheels
  • S15 body
  • Gold compound Ellipses
  • F2 8th Scale Truck body

JConcepts driver Doug Dragotta competed in the 40+ E Buggy and Mod 2wd Buggy classes at this race too. In 40+ he would finish 7th overall and in Mod 2wd he would finish 2nd on the podium! His e buggy ran on A2 compound Detox tires while his Mod 2wd used Rips and Double Dees V2 tires.

Heading over to Helena, AL we catch up with JConcepts driver Jason Westfall. He recently visited Warehouse Hobby and Raceway to compete at Round of the Snap Hard Racing League in the Pro E Buggy and Mod Stadium Truck classes. In E Buggy he would finish 2nd overall while running Green compound Reflex tires, a P1 body and a F21 wing! In the Mod Stadium Truck class he would take the TQ and win on Black compound Ellipse tires!

Also competing at this race was JC mate Danny Smith in the Mod 4wd and Nitro Buggy classes. In mod wheeler he would take the win on slicked out Green compound Ellipses and he also took the TQ and win in nitro buggy while rolling on Detox tires in the same compound!

Now we mosey over to MOJO Hobby in Oklahoma City, OK for our next report. Team driver Jennifer Lathrop recently competed there at their Ice Breaker event which saw 136 entries! She competed in the Outlaw Sprint class and would take the win while running Silver compound Dirt Webs up front, Silver compound Ellipses in the rear and all mounted to 9 Shot wheels!

Also competing at this roundy round event was teammate Robert Chapman in the Outlaw Sprint and Midwest Modified classes. He would miss out making the A in the Outlaw Sprint class and finish a solid 5th place in Midwest Modified!

Next, we head north to Jake’s RC Pro Am in Topeka, KS. Team driver Tyler Keel competed there over the weekend at their 3rd Annual Slick Track Nationals.

He raced in the A-Mod class and would finish 5th for the event and take home some cold cash too!

Our next stop for this week’s report is in Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. Over the weekend they held their 5th Annual Carpet Off-Road Crash-In race which saw 126 entries!

Starting with team driver Mason Herrick he reports that he competed in the Mod 2wd Buggy class and finished 3rd overall! He used Swaggers in the front, Twin Pins in the rear, Mono wheels, a F2 body and a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 6.5″ Rear Wing.

Teammate Ethan Delair also competed at this event would set the TQ in both the Mod 4wd and 2wd Buggy classes, and he finished 2nd in wheeler and 1st in 2wd! He ran our Twin Pin and Swagger tires, a Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing, S2 body and Black B6.3 andB74.1 Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Sets. Joining him on the Mod 2wd Buggy podium were teammates Drew Rubenking (2nd) and Mason Herrick (3rd) to complete the JConcepts podium sweep!

Heading further north we check in with team driver Thor Ott. Over the weekend he went to Dollar Hobbyz Raceway in Woodbury, MN to compete at their Winter Classic trophy race.

He competed in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class and would take the TQ and win while running Fuzz Bite tires mounted to Mono wheels!

Now we make our way over to Michigan and stop in at the city of Livonia where Dirt Burner Hobbies and Raceway is located. This past Saturday they ran the 3rd round of their points series and team driver Chris Rothwell competed in both the 17.5 2wd Buggy and E Buggy classes.

In the main for 17.5 2wd Buggy he would have some bad luck and break out to finish 10th for the main after starting 3rd on the grid. But he had better luck in E buggy as he would take the TQ and win! Both bugs ran sanded down Silver compound Ellipses along with a P2 body on his 2wd ride while his e buggy used a S15 shell.

Staying in state we now head over to Grand River RC in Grandville to get an update from team driver Kyle Munson. He recently visited there to compete in their inaugural Dirt Air 1/8 only race which used a heads up start racing format. As the track conditions changed throughout the day he was still able to lock in the TQ and take the win in the 10 minute A Main! He started out on Silver compound Ellipses when the track was wet but then opted to use Green compound Reflex tires when the track dried out.

Crossing over into Illinois we catch up with team driver Brayden Billington. He recently went to RJD Hobbies in Lincoln to compete at their Land of Lincoln Shootout race. He competed in four classes and won in three of them!

  • Mod 2wd Buggy = 1st place while running on Silver compound Ellipses and Mono wheels
  • Mini Truggy = 1st place while running on Silver compound Ellipses and Mono wheels
  • 13.5 4wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place while running on Silver compound Ellipses and Mono wheels
  • Mod 4wd Buggy = TQ and 2nd place while running on Silver compound Ellipses and Mono wheels

Now let’s get some updates from our international team starting with JConcepts driver Clément Boda. He competed at the French National Warm-up race at Reims over the weekend and is off to a good start as he took the double TQ and win in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes! His cars used F2 bodies, Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing, Aero S-Type Rear Wing and Rips front tires (control tires in the rear).

Our final report this week comes to us courtesy of team driver Jake Dell. As the winter is starting to fade over in the UK that means the outdoor nitro racing season is heating up so he was able to hit the track for some practice at Nemo Raceway. His car is looking strong for the upcoming season while running on Black and Green compound Reflex tires plus a S15 shell!
