Race Team Update – January 2023 Week #1

One week of racing in 2023 is in the books and it looks like there is no stopping the JConcepts team which you can read for yourself in this fresh edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report out in the state of Washington. This past weekend there were a few different RC races happening throughout the state, so let’s check in with the team to see how they finished up. Our first visit is at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in the city of Monroe. They recently hosted Round 3 of the DieHard RC Experience series which saw nearly 200 entries! Team driver Cole Chura was at this event, and he doubled down with TQs and wins in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes!

Also racing at this round was JC driver Tyler Wilbur who finished 5th in Mod 2wd and 3rd in Mod 4wd Buggy! Joining him on the mod wheeler podium were his tire teammates Harley Yoshii (2nd) and Austin Cracknell (1st)!

Our next stop in the state is in the city of Burlington. This past weekend Creekside held another round of the NORA Winter Dirt Oval Series, and team driver Robert Sorjonen took the TQ and W in the SC Mod class! He also finished 4th in the Open Modified Sprint class too!

Now we fly out to the RC Pitstop & Raceway in Newton, KS for our next update. This new facility held Round 1 of their Carpet Wars Winter Series which saw over 100 entries! JConcepts driver Mason Herrick set the TQ and took the win in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class!

His teammate Ken Peterson also competed in this class and locked up the final podium spot!

Heading north we cross the stateline and stop in at Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. This past weekend they held Round 9 of their Syndicate Off-Road Carpet Series, and team driver Drew Rubenking reports that he set the TQ and took the win in the Mod 2wd Buggy class!

His fellow JC driver Emerson Sturgeon would take the victory in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class too!

Team driver David Peavler would finish 8th in 13.5 4wd Buggy, 6th in Mod 2wd Buggy and 3rd place in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class!

JC driver Mike Sanders would finish 6th in Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy and 5th overall in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class!

The carpet event took place on Saturday and then on Sunday it was time for Round 4 of their Dirt Oval series. JConcepts driver Will Brinton competed in the 410 Outlaw Sprint class and would start on the pole and take the win!

Heading further north let’s check in with team driver Austin Jacobson who recently competed at Thunder Road RC Raceway in Waite Park, MN for their latest points series event. He would put in a solid 5th place finish in 13.5 4wd Buggy and 4th overall in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class!

Heading east into New Franken, WI where Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway is located we get our next update from team driver Ryan Derenne.

He competed there over the weekend for their 12th Fall Series race, and he would finish 6th in the Mod Stadium Truck class and 2nd overall in 40+ Super Stock 2wd Buggy!

Launching it south into the “Land of Lincoln” we land in at RJD Hobbies in Lincoln, IL. Team driver Brayden Billington competed there recently for their New Year’s Race in three classes. He would finish 2nd in Mod 4wd Buggy and set the TQ and and took the A Main wins in both the 17.5 2wd Buggy an Mini Truggy classes!

Heading out east let’s catch up with team driver John Cravotta who raced recently in the January Thaw Race held at Maximus RC Raceway in York, ME. He entered the Expert 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes and would lock up the final podium spot in both! Joining him on the 2wd buggy podium in 2nd place was his teammate Matthew Sousa!

Heading to Pennsylvania let’s visit Big Dog RC located in the town of Stoneboro. JC driver Matt Adams recently club raced there and would compete in three classes. He would get a DNF in the Mod 4wd Buggy class, 4th in Stadium Truck and 3rd place in the Short Course Truck class!

Making out way to Maryland let’s catch up with JConcepts driver Jose Zayas. He recently competed at The Track in the city of Gaithersburg for their New Year’s race event in three separate classes. He would have some bad luck in 13.5 4wd Buggy as he finished with a DNF, but he also secured 4th place in 17.5 2wd Buggy and took the win the 13.5 Stadium Truck class!

Also competing at this event for the team was JC pilot Chris Fokianos in the 17.5 2wd ,Mod 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. He would finish the event 4th overall in 13.5 wheeler, 3rd in Mod 2wd and 2nd place in 17.5 2wd buggy!

Now let’s rock out to Knoxville, TN to see how the team finished up at the Disco Brawl held at ROCCK Racing. JConcepts driver Jonah Wilson competed in the Pro 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy class as well as 1/8 Nitro Truggy, and he set the TQ in all three classes! In the mains he ran into some bad luck in nitro buggy which ended his run early with a DNF, but he bounced right back in the other two classes and he would secure the wins for this race!

His tire teammate Ennis Graves also threw down laps at this event and would finish 7th in Pro 1/8 Nitro Buggy and 4th place in the 1/8 Nitro Truggy class!

Our final update comes to us courtesy of team driver Julien Oliveras. This past weekend he competed at Round 1 of the Purge Series held at Dean’s All Out RC in Apopka, FL which saw 125 entries! He competed in two classes and would take the W in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class, plus he picked up a TQ and win in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class! Joining him on the nitro buggy podium were fellow JConcepts drivers Trent Walker (3rd) and Jonathan Hernandez (5th)!
