Friday5 With Team Driver Billy DiCorte Jr.

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Texas team driver, Billy DiCorte Jr.!

1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?

My friend Garett introduced me to dirt oval racing back in 2007. I ran a Team Associated GT2 in the nitro EDM class for a few short months, but life and school took priority until around 2018 when I picked back up dirt oval racing. Then it got really heavy at the end of 2020 when my friend Tim convinced me to come try 1/8 off-road at the track in Waco by my house.

2. Nitro or Electric racing. If you had to eliminate one all together which one would it be and why?

Electric. Even though electric is super easy and simple, it can’t top the fun you and your pit guy have chatting and working together for a 30 minute main.

3. What is one tip you have for new drivers getting into RC racing that you would like to share?

Get to know your equipment and what tires to run in various conditions first and foremost. Being able to change aspects of your car to suit your driving style and having it planted on the correct rubber will make the overall experience way more enjoyable. Not learning those will make you spend a lot of extra unnecessary money on things you may not need.

4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?

My Finish Line bags are a life saver. Having everything neat and organized is key on race weekends especially when running three classes and needing to know where stuff is at all times.

5. What other hobbies are you into besides RC cars?

My life revolved around motocross until RC racing took over, so every now and then I take my 450 out and go rip some laps at the MX track
