Race Team Update – August 2023 Week #2

The JConcepts race team stays red hot on RC tracks around the globe for the second week of August. Read about our continued winning ways in this blazing new edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report out east at Leaned Out Raceway in Disputanta, VA. This past week they held their Back To School trophy race and team driver Rusty Mihelich set the TQ in both the Expert 1/8 Electric Buggy and 1/8 Electric Truggy classes! He would go on to finish 2nd in e truggy and 1st in e buggy!

His daughter Maddy Long would join him on the e buggy podium in 2nd place, and she also took the double TQ and win in the Expert 1/8 Nitro Buggy and 1/8 Nitro Truggy classes!

Heading down the coastline let’s next stop in at ERC (Easley RC Complex) in Easley, SC. This past weekend they held their Carolina Cup trophy race and team driver Derrick Harris competed in both the 1/8 Electric Buggy & Truggy classes. Unfortunately, mother nature didn’t cooperate as the outdoor event had to be canceled after two rounds of qualifying. That meant he would finish in 8th place for e buggy, and he also took the TQ and win in e truggy!

Bouncing up to Indiana let’s get our next update from team driver Nick Reppen. This past weekend he competed in, and also ran the race program for, the 1/8 Apocalypse Annual Race at Hoosier RC Hobbyplex in the city of New Albany. He competed in the 1/8 Electric Truggy class and finished 2nd on the podium!

Crossing the stateline we make our way to Dream Fields Raceway in Waterloo, IL where the 4th round of the Trigger King RC Monster Truck Series took place at. Team driver Josh Rhodes competed in this past round and finished in 1st place in the Pro Mod class with his Grave Digger replica!

His tire teammate Jeremy Mark competed in three different classes, and in the Retro class his Buffalo Tremor 2 replica won racing bracket 2!

Also competing at this past round for the team was JC driver Chris Parrish. In the Retro class his Bear Foot truck was the top qualifier while his Master of Disaster replica was the number two qualifier and went to the finals! In Retro bracket 2 his Master of Disaster monster truck was the 2nd qualifier overall again!

In SportMod bracket 1 his replica Bear Foot Racer was the 3rd qualifier, but both his Equalizer and Bear Foot Racer trucks went out in the round of 8. In Bracket 2, his Bearfoot Racer was the TQ and went to the round of 8 while his Equalizer truck made it to the Semi Finals!

In the ProMod class his Equalizer vehicle took bracket 1, and in bracket 2 his Indominus monster truck was the 2nd qualifier and went to the finals! Both his Equalizer and Indominus trucks tied for 2nd in points overall on the day too!

Shooting down to Texas let’s get some quick updates from the team competing at a few different events throughout the state. Starting at Mike’s Gulf Coast RC Raceway in they city of Porter, this track recently held Round 2 of the HARC (Houston Area RC) Series, and team driver Brian Henn competed in both the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy and Truggy classes. He would set the TQ in the e truggy class and when the racing was done for the day he would finish 7th in e buggy and took the win in e truggy!

Also competing at this round was fellow JC driver Todd Geary in the Open 1/8 Nitro Buggy class. He would set the TQ for the day and race on to take the win!

Now let’s shift gears and head to Thompson’s RC in the city of Justin to see how the team performed at the SJD Southern Nationals that brought out 155 entries!

Starting with team driver Billy DiCorte Jr. he reported that he finished 7th in 13.5 Street Stock, 5th in Midwest Mod and took the W in the 10.5 Sprint car class!

Also competing at this event for the team was JConcepts driver Kevin Mcnatt in the SC Mod class where he captured 1st place!

Team driver Jordan Hefler was keeping busy at this race as he competed in six different classes!

  • Late Model = 3rd place
  • Midwest Mod = 2nd place
  • Wingless Sprint = TQ and 2nd place
  • SC Mod = TQ and 2nd place
  • Mudboss = 1st place
  • 13.5 Street Stock = TQ and 1st place

Those are some awesome results and he also earns our coveted “ironman” award this week too!

JC pilot Kevin Lenderman competed in the Late Model class and he finished 9th overall, plus he also finished in 2nd place in the Dash For Cash money race to his fellow JConcepts teammate Nathan Dean!

Nathan also let us know that he was able to take the wins in the Sprint, Late Model, and Midwest Mod classes, plus his daughter Vivian was also able to take home her 1st dirt oval win!

Kicking it north to Kansas we get our next update from team driver Mason Herrick. He recently competed at Round 4 of the Summer Carpet Sizzler series at RC Pitstop and Raceway in the town of Newton. He set the TQ in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class and would go on to take the win, plus picked up another W in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class!

His teammate Ken Peterson joined him on the 2wd buggy podium, and Ken also finished 1st overall in the Mod 2wd Buggy class with his two sons finishing right behind him on the podium!

Now let’s move even further north and stop in at Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. This past Saturday was the 3rd and final round of their Summer Truck Series.

Team driver Emerson Sturgeon would wrap up this series by finishing 1st overall in the 13.5 Stadium Truck and Mini Truggy classes!

Fellow JConcepts driver Trevor “Chilly” Duncan competed in two classes in this series. When the points were tallied up he would finish 1st overall in the Spec Slash and Pro2 Short Course Truck classes!

Now we make our way out west to get our next update and top in at MHOR RC Raceway in Aurora, CO. Legendary Colorado driver Rob Sturghill reported that he attended their recent 2023 Turf Wars event, and would double down with two TQs and wins in the 13.5 Stadium Truck and 40+ 21.5 2wd Buggy classes!

Next, let’s fly out to sunny California to see how the team finished up at a few RC events. Starting in the city of Auburn where Auburn RC is located, the team was putting on work at their recent 2023 Gold Country Classic event. Team driver Kyle Layton competed in the Mod Sprint class and would set the TQ and finish 2nd overall in the main!

His tire teammate Rob Moots competed in the 13.5 and Mod sprint classes, and he would finish 4th in Mod and took the win in the 13.5 class!

Our next update is from team driver Johnathan Schultz who recently competed in Round 2 of the Summer Madness series held at Coyote Hobbies Raceway in Victorville. He raced in the Spec SR10 and 13.5 Sprint classes and would take home the W in both!

Now let’s check in with our international team starting with Australian team driver Jarod Ment. He recently competed in the annual New South Wales 1/10 Off-Road State Titles held this year in Batemans Bay.

He would finish the event by locking up the final podium spot in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes along with a TQ and win in Mod Stadium Truck!

Also competing for the team at this race was JC driver Jordan Isergin in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes. He would double-down at this race with two TQs and wins in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes!
