JConcepts Wins At The WERC Series Finals

Last weekend the JConcepts race team hit the road and traveled to HRCR (Hayden Radio Control Raceway) in Hayden, ID to attend the finals for the WERC (Wilde Events RC) Series.

This race brought out 384 entries as they competed in nine different classes.

The event started on Friday morning as drivers were able to put down some laps on the fresh layout.

Practice ran until just past 9:30pm that night as all of the competitors tried to find the fastest lines round the track.

Saturday morning qualifying began shortly after 8am. The race program called for three qualifying rounds and each heat ran for five minutes. Only a driver’s best two qualifying results would be used to determine who started first in the main events.

In the nitro classes the top 13 drivers were automatically locked into the single 30 minute A Main, and two drivers also bumped in from the B main for a total of 15 cars. In the electric classes again the top 13 cars qualified directly to the mains, and two more drivers joined them from the B Main for a total of 15 drivers.

However, the electric classes ran a AAA Main format with main running for 10 minutes each. Each lower electric main ran for 10 minutes too, and all of the lower nitro mains were 15 minutes long.

In the 1/8 Electric Buggy class team driver Jared Wiggins would qualify second overall for the AAA Mains. In A1 he would follow the leader for the entire race before making a pass on the last corner to take the win by 0.098 seconds! In A2 he would again follow the leader around before taking over 1st place on lap eight, and then he raced towards the finish line and won another close battle by 0.431 seconds! With two wins after two mains this locked up the title in this class for the weekend!

In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class team driver Phi-Long Nguyen would start 3rd overall for the 30 minute main event. He would move up to 2nd place by lap three then fall back to 4th place on lap five. By lap eight he would make his way back up to 2nd again and he continued to put down fast laps. By lap 30 he took over 1st place as he continued to pace himself with the top qualifier. Fuel strategy came into play as the top two drivers ran closely on the track, but by lap 49 he took over the lead again and would stay there as he crossed the finish line ahead of the pack to get a bonus lap on the entire field! His tire teammate Jared would join him on the podium in 3rd place too!
