In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Minnesota team driver, Kyle Holmberg!
1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?
My first hobby grade RC was a Traxxas T-Maxx 3.3 I believe around 2010. Soon after I got a Traxxas Slash and began racing at MMR in St. Louis Park, MN.
2. If you had to guess where the 1/10 off-road electric scene is ten years from now, would you expect to see more dirt, carpet, or turf tracks and why?
Carpet and astro for sure. The tracks are easier to maintain and have less wear and tear on the building itself with less moisture and mold.
3. In your region, you do quite a bit of racing on off-road carpet. So what advice do you have for off-road dirt drivers that are trying out carpet for the 1st time?
Make sure you have your basics set. Ride height, camber, toe, and steering end points. A lot of times when people ask me to try their cars, you would be surprised by how many cars don’t have the steering end points correctly.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see and why? Is it a new body, new tire, new accessory, etc.?
Right now, I’m excited to try the new Fuzz Bite Wide 2wd front tires on the front of a 4wd buggy as a test.
5. Name one thing people might be surprised to know about you.
This year, I became the regional manager for Team Associated in my region. In the past year, we have really improved the representation in 8th scale during the summer months here. I look forward to continuing the support into the winter months when everyone transfers over to indoor carpet 10th scale.
